Reporting to the Tolling Supervisor, the
Electronic Technician position is responsible for the maintenance, administration and troubleshooting of the toll system, intelligent surveillance system, traffic management system and any technology that resides on the bridges or bridge properties.

You will have responsibility to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair electronic devices.


This position is required to work in variable weather temperatures and adverse weather conditions; in direct automotive traffic and/or close proximity to moving equipment/vehicles travelling on the bridge; at extreme heights from feet above the bridge, and in confined spaces below the bridge or in the bridge towers.

A critical accountability is adherence to the HHB Safety standards, policies and processes. This includes hazard assessments, wearing required Personal Protective Equipment, proper access of confined spaces, and safety observations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Follow HHB safety policies, procedures, standards, and Safe Work Practices, including: completing mandatory safety training, completing Job Hazard Assessments, reporting hazards to the Tolling Supervisor, taking corrective actions to eliminate, mitigate or control hazards, offering suggestions to enhance the Safety program.
  • Test electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial electronic control systems and other related devices.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and maintain maintenance records.
  • Work in toll lanes in allweather environments to support toll systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot traffic management system.
  • Maintenance and repair of surveillance cameras.
  • Perform scheduled checks of electronics on bridges and buildings.
  • Able to work independently or as a team member in an efficient manner while focusing on providing excellent customer service and exhibiting pride in quality work.
  • Able to communicate with people of different technical/nontechnical knowledge, skills or experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:


  • Clean driving record and a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License (a Driver Abstract will be required before hire).
  • Must have intermediate computer skills.
  • Able to work in high stress environments with limited supervision in safety sensitive position.
  • Must pass a preemployment drug and alcohol test, physical demands testing and criminal background check.
  • Punctual and dependable with a cando attitude.
  • Able to work overtime or extended shifts when required.

Working Conditions:


  • This position is deemed as a safety sensitive position.
  • Heavy to moderate noise exposure from working near or in direct automotive traffic and/or close proximity to moving equipment/vehicles travelling on the bridge.
  • Variable weather temperatures and adverse or extreme conditions including freezing temperatures (i.e. rain, snow, ice).
  • Must be able to work from heights and in confined/small spaces.
  • Work at extreme heights feet) above the bridge, and in confined spaces below the bridge or in the bridge towers.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals for the tolling coin machines.
  • Exposure to bird feces, and dead animals on occasion.
  • Mental stress may be experienced from the height of the structure, working in traffic, or when responding to hazardous situations.
This is a
Term (1 year), Full-time, Unionized position - LOCAL 927 Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, Helpers & Miscellaneous Workers. The hours of work are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (
40 hours a week) from Monday to Friday, however, the role does require occasional extended hours (weekend and/or evening). An on-call rotation, once in three or four weeks is required. Comprehensive compensation package includes health and dental benefits in addition to insurances coverage.


Start date:
May 2023 to May 2024 with a possibility of extension


Hiring wage:
Electronic Technician $ 27.51 per hour
