The Ministry of Jobs, Economy, and Trade has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a Communications and Issues Coordinator to join our team
The Economic Development and Business Supports Division is focused on driving and operationalizing the department's economic development agenda through policies, strategies and programs that help to create jobs and diversify Alberta's economy.
We do this by providing analysis and developing policy, delivering programs focused on quality and excellence in client service, and stakeholder engagement.
The Business and Industry Supports Unit (BISU), within the Business Supports Branch, designs and delivers impactful programs that provide supports to Alberta's job creators.
These programs are crucial to the success of Alberta businesses as they encourage economic growth and promote the development of Alberta's small and medium sized organizations in primary and emerging sectors.
BISU administers the Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC), a program that supports and encourages medium and large-scale corporations to produce films, television series and other eligible screen-based productions in the province.
BISU also provides support to local and regional economies through the Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) grant program.Role Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Business and Industry Supports Unit (BISU), the Communications and Issues Coordinator supports and works closely with all teams within the BISU
Position responsibilities include:
- Ensuring messages in brefing notes and communications are consistent with style guide requirements, current, contain proper content, and all questions posed by the correspondent are addressed.
- Drafting standard and followup responses for ongoing initiatives and issues, consulting with ministry and divisional staff on content.
- Preparing background information, presentation materials and speaking notes for Senior Mangers (SMs), ED and action requests as required.
- Liaising with staff in the Communications branch to develop messages in accordance with new initiatives and the ministry's program and services.
- Developing and administering processes/communications for special projects of various size, scopes, duration, and complexities.
- Collaborating with ministries, program areas, other editors, and managers to ensure accuracy and consistency in messaging.
- Supporting the Director with emerging issues.
Qualifications:
University graduation in Public Administration, business or in a related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described below
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets: - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to persuade and influence behaviour without direct authority

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
