Position Summary


The EDGE Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator will provide programming to youth on mental health and wellness related topics including but not limited to: wellness planning, stress management, self-care, coping strategies, adaptability, confidence, comfort zones, work-life balance, healthy boundaries, allyship & inclusion, mindfulness, and self-esteem.

They will report directly to the President & CEO of MetroWorks and will work within the hours of 8am-4pm. The Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator will not take crisis calls.

All participants in the program are given a 24/7 mental health crisis number to call within the community and are informed up front that the facilitator is not available for crisis calls.

The facilitator will provide wellness support to a diverse set of EDGE participants age 18-26 accessing income assistance or at risk of becoming attached to income assistance, with an emphasis on employment/employability.

They will work collaboratively in a team environment with other EDGE staff and community referral partners; They will utilize an evidence-based and strengths-based approach to programming.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and facilitate weekly workshops on mental health for Halifax and virtual sites;
  • Complete new participant onboarding, which includes creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan, grounding box, signing consent forms, and discussing the option of counselling with them;
  • Provide checkins with participants that have elected not to participate in counselling;
  • Create a safety plan with participants when needed;
  • Help participants fill out forms to gain access to community mental health resources;
  • Liaise with EDGE team members to facilitate resources navigation;
  • Liaise with community members and organizations to stay up to date with mental health resources available and referral processes for youth;
  • Client followup after workshops which includes sending resource materials, mental health educational material and activities when applicable;
  • Complete character reference checks and communicate conclusion with the EDGE team;
  • Track meetings with participants (name, time, and reason for meeting) to be given to the EDGE Navigator for LaMPSS;
  • Liaise with Youth Mentor and Youth Navigator to provide interventions such as gym memberships, fitness classes, art classes, clothing support, childcare, food support, hygiene support, wifi support, and transportation;
  • Weekly meetings with EDGE staff and CEO covering updates on programs and participants;
  • Responsible for researching and connecting with different organizations and communities across all of Nova Scotia and connecting youth to appropriate supports;
  • Maintain client confidentiality as expected by ethical standards;
  • Manage the administrative requirements as dictated by MetroWorks Employment Association;
  • Refer clients to appropriate resources and thoroughly maintain documentation in computerized system for followup regarding clinical and worklife services;
  • Complete timely followup calls to clients where necessary.

Qualifications:

University degree in a related field and relevant work experience a must.

Experience facilitating workshops.

Demonstrated commitment to working with youth.

Adherence to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making, and respect for diversity.


Salary:
$50,000.00-$50,050.00 per year
