Laboratory Supervisor

Job Overview and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):
- Lead and develop staff, including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
- Monitor workload and prioritize tasks based on client and Bureau Veritas's needs.
- Ensure release of results meets or exceeds client turnaround expectations.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment, report outages, and arrange repairs as necessary.
- Develop and validate analytical methods in accordance with established practices.
- Write, maintain, and improve SOPs, work instructions, and safety documentation.
- Assist in the maintenance of CALA accreditation and ISO 17025 laboratory requirements, and devising/implementing audit responses.
- Provide technical expertise and training to staff on a daytoday basis.
- Review analytical and quality control data on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain onsite accountability for WHMIS, OH&S, and Responsible Care compliance.
- Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
- Act as a liaison between Bureau Veritas and the client(s)
- With the Manager, assist in developing business plans that increase Bureau Veritas' profile in the region.
- Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.
Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in related field (i.e. BSc,)
- 5+ years of experience in related field of which 2 years are at a leadership level
- Uptodate knowledge of laboratory process and automation
- Assess problems and recommends solutions
- Strong people skills for team building, training and coaching
- Good timemanagement, multitasking, and priority setting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fastpaced environment
- Works both independently and as part of a team
- Strong computer skills
Working Conditions:
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License with less than 6 demerits as company vehicle will be provided for transportation to and from site
