  • Every day, more publicly traded companies are developing and refining disclosures around their environmental and social practices, impacts, and risks. In their efforts to improve their sustainability management programs, companies seek expert guidance on industry norms and peer best practices, and stakeholder expectations, including an understanding of prevailing ESG ratings, such as ISS ESG Corporate Rating and ISS QualityScore.
  • The Sustainability Advisory Manager role on the ICS team is a fastpaced clientfacing role that provides advisory and consulting services on a wide range of critical environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues to senior executives at the world's largest companies.
  • The Role
  • A portion of our sustainability work involves helping companies optimize their public environmental and social disclosures to increase transparency and improve their standing on external ratings systems as well as focus corporate sustainability strategy on matters that are most material to a company's business.

On a daily basis, you will:

  • Manage a team of advisors supporting clients in designated sectors and specializing in key issues most relevant to the industries the team covers.
  • Coach, train, and support team members in their client communications, research responsibilities, and professional development.
  • Form and sustain ongoing relationships with senior client executives and management teams to understand their needs and provide them with context and advice tailored to their challenges and goals.
  • Analyze evolving ESG trends—including reporting standards, rating systems, stakeholder expectations — to identify key issues relevant for client disclosures.
  • Supervise and review polished client deliverables and discuss them in detail with sustainability and other clevel executives, including legal.
  • Synthesize information from our ESG databases and platform to uncover actionable intelligence on ESG disclosures and practices.
  • In addition to daytoday client advisory work, you will:
  • Support the Sustainability business by reviewing team contributions and contributing to the development of industry
  • leading intellectual capital and thought leadership on ESG topics, including whitepapers, toolkits, webinars, and presentations for individual clients and at industry conferences.
  • Collaborate with sales, product, and operations teams within the organization to support the evolution of the service offering and help coordinate efforts for building strong relationships with key clients.
  • The role requires 10% travel or less, typically for conference attendance and occasional client visits.
  • Qualifications & Education 10 years of successful work experience related to sustainability consulting, solutions development and strategy, climate change analytics, or corporate reporting
  • At least 5 years of management experience in clientfacing, professional services role.
  • Experience in clientfacing corporate advisory work; experience in industrials, health care, and technology sectors is preferred
  • Strong understanding of sustainability data and corporate as well as vendor business risk related to ESG
  • Climate related business risk, renewable energy, and GHG emissions (scope 1, 2, & 3 as well as reduction & risk mitigation strategy) knowledge
  • Understanding of GRI, SASB, TCFD, and other market standards and guidelines
  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organization, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Sustainability, or Environmental Engineering, or a related field with an exceptional performance record
  • Skills & Additional Considerations
  • Strong coaching and management skills, including clear communication ability to develop and manage and clientfacing team
  • Ability to diagnose client needs and identify relevant resources
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Proficiency in distilling data using Excel, SQL, or other tools
  • Proactive in turning to others for assistance when required
  • Ability to present professionally and authoritatively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships in a crossfunctional environment
  • Capacity to quickly establish relationships with executives and be seen as a trusted resource
  • Demonstrated poise and grace under pressure
