Finance Assistant, Disbursements

Nature of the Position

Due to internal movement, the District is seeking a Finance Assistant, Disbursements. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Finance Assistant administers the District's accounts payable and payroll processes.

The Finance Assistant provides these services in an effective and efficient manner while ensuring the disbursements are timely, accurate and in accordance with the collective agreement and other relevant legislation.

Essential Competencies


Applicants must have completed Grade 12 (or equivalent); have completed a post-secondary payroll/accounting program; and have a minimum of 2 years related work experience, preferably in a municipal government setting.

Applicants must be detail orientated, customer focused, highly motivated and efficient.

This position has many deadlines that require exceptional organizational, time management and communication skills while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and tact.

Applicants must have a high level of proficiency in financial and payroll software, and MS Office.

Preferred Competencies

Knowledge of municipal government operations and experience processing payroll for a unionized workforce is desirable. Working knowledge of Vadim accounting systems, and Ceridian Dayforce is preferred.

Enrolment or membership in the Canadian Payroll association or a recognized accounting program is preferred.

Working Conditions

This is a regular, full-time unionized position within the BCGEU.

The wage for this position is set at Grid Level 8, $ $35.47 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.

The hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The District of Sechelt supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of British Columbia.
