Quality Control Technician

Position Summary


The Quality Control Technician is responsible for inspecting perishable products at receipt and/or prior to being shipped to our customers to ensure quality and food safety standards are met.

This role reports to the Inventory Control Supervisor.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in receiving all inbound products and responsible for inspecting the items for freshness and quality.
  • Inspect, test and/or measure products according to product specifications and customer expectations.
  • Verify a certain percentage of all products based on industry standards to ensure they are free from contaminants, and/or quality defects.
  • Responsible to control any nonconforming product that does not meet customer/internal specifications by placing it on hold physically and in ERP system.
  • Initiate corrective action for nonconforming product including notifying buyers and/or sales.
  • Create and maintain a detailed and accurate report of inspection results, including taking pictures and communicating inspection results to all appropriate personnel.
  • Document information on the computer in various databases and other internal programs; logs the nonconformities and when applicable generates quality concern notification.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders from Buyers, Account Managers, and QA to identify and correct recurring problems.
  • Responds to any quality issues on the floor as noticed or requested by Operations.
  • Assist in customer returns and quality credits to customers.
  • Work with warehouse and production staff to ensure proper rotation of inventory, and assist in the reduction of produce waste.
  • Other duties relevant to the position will be assigned as required.

Requirements:


  • 1 year of work experience in Quality/Inventory Control role in food or related industry.
  • Postsecondary education in Food Science/Biology (or related Science) is an asset.
  • Understanding of food safety and packaging processes.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Basic computer literacy skills in MS Office.
  • Strong logical thought process and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Be well organized & able to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs if needed.
  • Able to work in a cold temperature environment from 2°C for an extended period of time.
  • Forklift and pallet jack license preferred but not required.

Working Days & Hours

  • 5 day work week; must have flexibility from Sunday Friday.
  • Shift time 7:00AM 3:30PM. Hours worked per day fluctuate depending on business needs.
