Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, International Student Services, the International Student Engagement Officer works closely with the International Student Services (ISS) team to provide a range of programs, services, resources and support to the College's international students across all of its campuses.

As part of the ISS team, the incumbent actively engages with international students to understand their unique needs, connect them with supports and services, and identify gaps in order to improve the experience of international students at the College.

In addition, the incumbent will deliver programs, events and activities that support international students as they transition in, through, and out of their academic programs at the College.

The International Student Engagement Officer delivers excellence in supporting and championing international students and their success.

The incumbent is responsible for participating in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of student success and retention programs, services and resources for international students and coordinates the effective integration of programs across the student life-cycle from prospective student, to beginning alumni engagement for students at the College.

This includes collaborating with the broader Student Community and Engagement (SCE) team and other College partners to deliver new international student transition programs, settlement services, community building and engagement initiatives as well as and providing direct student support services.


The incumbent holds responsibility for the implementation of the operational elements of program planning and delivery including, but not limited to the support of detailed annual development of operational plans, the analysis and reporting of evaluation data, ensuring that the programming related to international student success and engagement is evidence based and measurable.

Other operational responsibilities will include training and oversight of student workers on the team.


Responsibilities

  • Access a deep level of inquiry to listen and understand the articulated and unarticulated needs of all international students who seek support, connecting them with appropriate College programs and services
  • Deescalate, normalize and decode needs, and get the international student connected to the appropriate person or service in a seamless and coordinated way.
  • Identify, build and maintain relationships College services and community agencies that are deemed useful to international students.
  • Educate students about the benefits of internationalizing their College experience, connecting them with the various programs available
  • Access student information through Banner, CRM Advise and/or other resources to follow up on administrative requests
  • Prepare a wide variety of letters for international students to support their immigration, financial, travel needs.
  • Develop and maintain information display boards and handout boards.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum two (2)year diploma in Business and/or Office Administration, Social Work, or equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in a student service role in a postsecondary institution
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and facilitating studentcentred programs designed to support international student engagement and success in higher education
  • Experience in developing, implementing and coordinating student events
  • Experience in evaluating student success programs preferred
  • Experience in coordinating the work of peer leaders or Work/Study students
  • Ability to use a wide variety of computer software packages such as Microsoft Office suite, Banner, Qualtrics, etc.
