We are looking to hire a continuous 40.0 hour per week Lead Maintenance Specialist at St. Basil Catholic Education Centre in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence as soon as possible. This position is covered by our CUPE 290 collective agreement.

The Lead Maintenance Specialist is assigned to maintain and repair the physical assets of the School Division. This person supervises Maintenance Specialists as assigned by the Employer. A Lead Maintenance Specialist could be a Maintenance Specialist or a Journeyperson. This person must be physically able to perform skilled work in the following areas: electrical, painting, plumbing, welding, and carpentry work in building alteration and repair; resolving emergency situations; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner. This position reports directly to the Director of Facilities.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma;

Current WHMIS certification;

Current First Aid certification;

Valid Driver's License.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum seven (7) years' experience in the field of educational facility maintenance.

TECHNICAL SKILLS (advanced knowledge of):

Hand and power tools;

Ground maintenance equipment;

Cleaning equipment (including floor washers, buffers, etc.);

Plumbing and electrical systems;

Computer skills;

Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently;

Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects;

Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs;

Maintains tools, equipment, systems and/or components (e.g. hand tools, power tools, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition;

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns;

Oversees maintenance personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting shift requirements.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Demonstrates ethical and confidential behaviour;

Demonstrates appropriate and independent use of time;

Good communication and interpersonal skills in English is preferred (both written and oral);

Good problems solving skills;

Good organizational skills;

Maintains effective working relationships with staff, students and community members.
