Job Summary


The Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) technician will be responsible for administering outpatient rTMS treatments as prescribed by a brain stimulation psychiatrist, monitoring patients during and after treatments and administering psychiatric symptom rating scales.

The rTMS technician will provide high quality, safe client-centered care to adults with treatment resistant mental disorders who have been prescribed rTMS treatment.


Responsibilities:

Administering rTMS treatments, monitoring patient outcomes during treatment & clinical documentation

  • Builds rapport and trust with the patient
  • Explains the rTMS procedure to the patient
  • Answers patient questions and addresses any concerns
  • Administers rTMS as per physician's order
Participating in quality improvement/research in the interventional psychiatry program

  • Attends monthly interventional psychiatry program operations meetings
  • Collaborates with team in creating standard operating procedures for new rTMS program
Interprofessional teamwork/collaboration

New referral processing

  • Reviews all new referrals for outpatient rTMS treatment with physician assistant
  • Escalates any issues with new referrals to brain stimulation psychiatrist and/or physician assistant
Ensuring rTMS supplies, equipment is available and treatment room set up

  • Ensures necessary rTMS supplies ie. coils, are available for treatments
  • Works with administrative assistant to order necessary supplies as required

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a health related field required, e.g. health care administration, addictions and mental health
  • Willingness to complete Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation training and obtain certification required
  • Minimum one year recent experience working in a mental health setting required
  • Experience working with patients suffering from anxiety and depression preferred
  • Excellent ability to assist patients to complete psychiatric rating scales
  • Very good knowledge of related community resources preferred
  • Valid Basic Life Support and First Aid required
  • ACLS Certificate is considered an asset
  • Experience with clinical interviewing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to guide and reassure patients
  • Ability to work under supervision and collaborate with mental health professionals
  • Ability to manage a large workload with multiple priorities
  • Advanced ability to ensure patient safety and comfort as well as answer questions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in electronic health recordkeeping and operating clinical equipment
