$79,606 to $90,461 per year (depending on qualifications and experience)

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our team.

As the
Community Development Officer, reporting to the Manager, Planning and Development, you are responsible for working with community stakeholders from a collaborative mindset approach to move Saugeen Shores into a 4-season destination of choice for visitors and a community of choice for residents.

A focus on community development is necessary for Saugeen Shores to be a destination of choice and in turn support a high quality of life.

People come to Saugeen Shores for its landscape, the water, and the beach - tourism.

They stay for the experiences and activities that turn their vacation place into the ideal place to live - quality of life.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Enhance the Town as a premier destination to visit as a key driver in transitioning prospects to see themselves as a resident or business owner.
  • Establish relationships with community and business stakeholders including but not limited to the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce, Southampton and Port Elgin BIAs, local businesses, and other prominent community organizations like the Marine Heritage Society and Pumpkinfest.
  • Responsible for proactive engagement work, utilizing key skills in building partnerships, project coordination and capacity building supporting local organizations and residents to identify issues, needs and solutions to improve the community Community Development Officer.
  • Lead community development action planning activities with stakeholders in 3 specific areas; organization, physical design, marketing, and promotion.
  • Explore the Shores campaign management, web support, content development and digital communications execution.
  • Work in a collaborative mindset to advance grass roots community development projects including place making activities in the Town's small parks and parkettes.
  • Promote and facilitate the Town's patio policy and program.
  • Develop and facilitate a community wide visitor ambassador program.
  • Liaise with Bruce County Economic Development on their community development program Spruce the Bruce.
  • Regularly assess and analyze data and trends and identify gaps for a greater understanding of the Town's economy as it relates to and affects the key identified industry sectors.
  • Coordinate the annual assessment of the economic impact of Tourism.
  • Monitor budget expenditures and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Facilitate outside contracts, adhere to budget appropriate expenditures.
  • Draft staff reports on applicable and timely program information and be prepared to present to council when required.
