    Description

    The Environmental Services Division of the Engineering and Regional Utilities Department provides environmental leadership and develops integrated sustainability strategies and policies that guide the growth of the City in accordance with Council's Strategic Plan and the City's updated Official Community Plan.

    Are you an outgoing, detail-oriented, and customer focused individual who is comfortable collecting data and enjoys working outdoors? If so, we are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Permanent Part-time Environmental Program Ambassador in our Environmental Services Division.

    In this exciting role you will tour the City collecting data, implementing program enforcement actions and educating citizens in a variety of forums and locales, including elementary, middle and secondary schools, malls and parks as well as participate in local community events along with delivering products and promotional material door-to-door. The work involves inspecting solid waste carts to assess compliance with City requirements, collecting data, removing contaminated carts from the curb, documenting actions undertaken, and providing public education of solid waste and environment program related data related to all aspects of the City's solid waste collection, urban wildlife, and waste diversion and disposal operations.

    Approximately 80% of the work will take place outdoors and will involve a substantial amount of walking. Your strong communication and relationship building skills will be essential as you provide information and assistance to the public and collaborate closely with the solid waste team. You will rely on your organizational skills and strong attention to detail to ensure data collection and tracking is accurate and efficient. You are comfortable and confident compiling data using basic computer and app-based programs.

    As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Two years' experience in customer service, public speaking, conflict resolution and field data collection.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.

    • This position is unionized, C.U.P.E Local , and the hourly rate of pay is $25.78 to $30.33, working 20 to 34 hours per week.
