The City of Edmonton is looking for a dynamic, people-focused Workforce Analyst to join our amazing team


The City of Edmonton is undertaking a major corporate shift in the way we operate and integrate the corporate processes and technology required to perform our core business functions in a standardized way.

The Workforce Analyst role will have the opportunity to be a part of this exciting transformation and provide expertise in supporting the groundwork for higher-level analysis and move beyond workforce data collection, management, verification and reporting for evidence-based decision making.

You will also have an amazing opportunity to support our Workforce Analytics journey as we embark on implementing a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution.


The Workforce Analyst will work collaboratively alongside business, other analysts and different stakeholders to identify key business problems, conduct client consultation, and deliver expected analytical outcomes.

  • Aid in the building of the foundation for state-of-the-art scientific and technical reporting capabilities within the Workforce Analytics team to support several planned and ongoing workforce data analytics projects
  • Develop an HR Data Sharing Standard document to articulate what data can be shared with which audience and the key privacy considerations associated with it
  • Consult clients to understand and identify their business problem, develop workforce data products (including reports, dashboards, and other analytical tools) that fulfill client business needs, and tell a datainformed story to empower Leaders in their evidencebased decision making
  • Offer your expertise in ETL design, development and support (e.g. SSIS package development or custom ETL solutions)
  • Extract data from Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) (i.e. Oracle Peoplesoft, MS SQL) by writing complex SQL queries or through Workforce Business Intelligence reporting packages
  • Offer advanced skills in SQL scripting
  • Adhere to overall Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse (BI/DW) architecture standards and principles
  • Improve data quality with SQL Server integration services
  • Manage workforce data and conduct audits to ensure data quality and data integrity
  • Develop queries and methodologies related to workforce data management to populate data into a defined reporting template
  • Complete workforce benchmarking surveys and other HR related inquiries from internal and external clients through a consultative approach
  • Provide workforce data expertise, client consultation, analytical demo, and recommendations to support all levels of corporate clients in addressing their workforce data and analytics needs
  • Review and identify deficiencies in existing workforce reports to ensure the accuracy and completeness of reporting data
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • University Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business Administration or related field
  • 4 years of diversified and progressive experience in the area of information analysis, including research and preparation of and understanding how analytics drives evidence based decision making
  • Advanced skills in SQL and SSIS are required, including the use of functions, graphs and connecting to external data sources, and strong query writing abilities
  • Experienced with statistical and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker Data Studio or Microsoft Power BI, and data cleansing tools and techniques
  • Experienced with Peoplesoft, SuccessFactors or similar HRIS systems
  • Experienced in assembling and analyzing data from multiple operational systems (SuccessFactors, PeopleSoft, SAP, etc.) to establish data history, analyze trends, generate reports and forecasts, and support general ad hoc queries
  • Ability to establish strong collaborative working relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Knowledge of HR business processes is an asset
  • Past experience in working with or implementing SAP Workforce Analytics, SAP Analytics Cloud, or other SAP analytical solutions is an asset
  • Familiarity with HR metrics and terminology is an asset
