Pipeline Geomatics Specialist (Geomatic Engineer, Technician or Designer) to support geomatic activities for pipeline projects within the Oil & Gas Canada business in

Calgary, AB.

Please note this role will work our standard office hybrid work schedule.
Wood's advanced modelling group does pipeline stress analysis using finite element analysis techniques.

The team is now looking for a Pipeline modeler who will be responsible to receive pipeline design, as built or ILI data coming in different file formats and process this information to create an accurate three-dimensional centerline model of the pipeline.

Other pipeline information, like bend geometry, soil, wall thickness, depth of cover, crossings, valves, etc. must be associated to the model. The pipeline modeler is expected to find, fix and/or report any inconsistences found in the input data.

The pipeline modeler must be able to understand pipeline alignment sheets, HDD drawings, as built surveying, map projections, datums and coordinate transformations.


Skills / Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year pipeline asbuilt surveying experience or 1 year as a data analyst of pipeline geometry and mapping inspection surveys (ILI)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience using Civil3D and AutoCAD Map3D or ArcMap for pipeline design and the production of pipeline alignment sheets, plan / profile views, cross section generation
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with MS Excel
  • Ensure the smooth data transition and dissemination of GIS data and results between multiple disciplines within a projects, stakeholders, and 3rd party contractors
  • Deliver GIS data and cartographic output at all stages of a project from its inception to its completion
  • Coordinate and assist in the projection and conversion of multiple data sets for use in a variety of programs by facilitating the import and export of AutoCAD and ESRI based datasets, Google files, and a variety of tabular data formats
  • Some level of programming in Visual Basic or other tools to work with geomatic data would be an asset.
  • Manage version tracking for Pipeline Routes and options for new projects and FEED studies to give a starting point for the project to progress forward
  • Understanding of Coordinate Systems, Coordinate transformations, Projections and Datums
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and able to work without much supervision.
