We're looking for a strategic leader who will spearhead the development and launch of our Sustainability solutions program within the Canadian market across multiple industries.

The Director, Business Solutions - Sustainability is a thought leader on best-in-class Sustainability and ESG practices, requirements, and business challenges within the sectors we serve, combining a balanced mix of technical and business acumen with regulatory and legislative knowledge to lead the development, launch, and ongoing evolution of new solutions, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, to ultimately have a positive impact on the lives of Canadians and the health of our planet.

What you'll do:


  • Lead and execute GS1 Canada's Sustainability solutions strategies, collaborating as a business owner crossfunctionally on product and service roadmaps, solution pricing, gotomarket plans and campaigns, and project definitions and updates to take these programs to market;
  • Work with leading Canadian companies in Grocery, Foodservice, General Merchandise and Healthcare sectors to ensure our solutions meet their current and future needs;
  • Facilitate industry meetings, conduct oneonone partner and customer interviews, and attend appropriate industry events to keep current on local market trends, new partnership opportunities, and GS1 Global initiatives, ensuring the programs are sustainable, while looking for opportunities to enhance program and solution offerings;
  • Provide thought leadership on environmental, social, and economical Sustainability issues and opportunities, including deposit return schemes (DRS), packaging recycling and circular economy, green house gas emissions reduction, food rescue and waste reduction, and Fairtrade certifications;
  • Partner with Marketing and Education teams to develop go to market messaging and Sustainability education programs and materials for internal staff and external stakeholders;
  • Own the P&L for our notforprofit Sustainability solutions by managing cost and cost recovery budgets in alignment with strategic initiatives, participating in budget planning, and managing daytoday administration of individual budgets;
  • Set KPIs, track metrics, conduct quarterly business reviews, and provide appropriate updates to staff, executives, and key stakeholders on the performance of our Sustainability solutions, ensuring planned targets are continually met or exceeded;
  • Own and refresh the Sustainability solutions strategies annually, looking for synergies with other business strategies and solutions to meet corporate goals;
  • Be a collaborative partner with all areas of the business to ensure the ongoing success of our Sustainability solutions.

  • You have a deep understanding of various Sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting requirements and challenges, and have creative ideas for solving those challenges with technology;
  • You have led the planning, design, and implementation of Sustainability programs, along with defining the budgets, financial metrics, KPI's, and processes meant to achieve the corporate objectives, and have met all reporting obligations;
  • You have developed and enhanced systems, processes, and tools for delivering best practice Sustainability performance, and have implemented Sustainability management systems for monitoring and/or reporting purposes;
  • You enjoy working in a fastpaced environment where you do meaningful work that impacts business of all sizes and scale all while having fun

Your Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in business, an MBA, or a combination of education and relevant experience;
  • 5+ years experience leading in a strategic Sustainability function, providing oversight for ESG program management, EPR reporting, legislative consultation, and/or other relevant activities;
  • Proven experience in a line of business leadership or general management role, ideally with financial acco
