Description

Reporting to the CEO, the Sustainability Manager should be a dynamic self-starter who can work autonomously to manage the GreenCheck division, maintain strong and positive client relationships, manage departmental projects and budgets, and collaborate with the sales and marketing team to grow our client base.


Responsibilities:


  • General Operations_
  • Chair biweekly meetings with the entire GreenCheck staff to check on progress, identify and address workflow bottlenecks, assign tasks, set deadlines, and provide advice
  • Attend sustainability industry events such as the PM Expo Buildings Show and LEAP awards to stay up to date with the latest trends and related government legislation
  • Maintain current knowledge of sustainability management practices, climate change mitigation strategies for real estate, green building certification standards and ESG frameworks such as GRESB, GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD
  • Maintain current knowledge on green building certification projects including LEED, Fitwel, and BOMA BEST. Assign tasks to the GreenCheck staff members that relate to such projects according to workload and level of expertise. Liaise with the clients to provide frequent updates on the certification's progress
  • Energy and water audit report writing
  • In conjunction with the CEO, implement and achieve overall department goals and objectives including annual financial targets and budgets and participate in the development of new services and/or related techniques for GreenCheck
  • Analyze market trends to identify new opportunities
  • Prepare and provide various reports and analytics to CEO as required
  • Quality Control_
  • Complete technical review of monthly, quarterly, and annual client reports, proposals, and other adhoc reports to ensure they meet the GreenCheck Program's data accuracy and presentation standards
  • Continuously improve upon our data analytics, reporting, and business development processes by reviewing standard operating procedures, formalizing internal processes, and testing enhancements
  • System Management_
  • Understand and continuously review the GreenCheck online system to identify potential efficiencies and future improvements
  • Interact with the system's developer to address platform functionality issues and request enhancements
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Client Management_
  • Engage with clients to address sustainability program and reporting inquiries
  • Develop and deliver presentations to potential clients on our services
  • Serve as the main point of contact for client portfolio owners and asset managers
  • Develop proposals
  • Focus on the market to identify new developments and possible service lines
  • Sales focused mindset and ability to network and attract potential new clients
  • Staff Management_
  • Monitor staff to ensure that they have a challenging yet manageable workload
  • Establish goals and objectives for team members and monitor their performance and goal progress
  • In conjunction with HR, take part in the recruitment process, including conducting interviews, orientation, and onboarding for new team members
  • Conduct probationary, midyear, and annual performance reviews for direct reports
  • Identify training and professional development needs for direct reports and conduct ongoing training as needed
  • Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and guidance to team members in achieving their deliverables and annual goals and objectives

Education and Experience:


  • Undergraduate degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science required
  • Graduate degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science combined with business knowledge preferred
  • 5 years of experience in the sustainability sector with an emphasis on utilities analysis, performance measurement, regulatory compliance (i.e. EWRB), ESG reporting and green buildings certifications
  • Experience working in a sustainability consulting company or at a commercial real estate company preferred
  • Experience managing people, teams and projects
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint
  • CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or CEA (Certified Energy Auditor) required
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE energy auditing standards preferred
  • LEED AP certification preferred
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred
  • Working knowledge of Power BI an asset
