Job Summary:


The SMART Program (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together) provides in home one on one exercise sessions for older adults living independently in the community.

It is designed to promote an active, healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of falls. All client visits are scheduled by the Coordinator. The Exercise Leader will implement the program in accordance with VON Standards.


Responsibilities:


  • Leads exercise sessions with clients in their homes under the direction of a Kinesiologist
  • Works toward fulfillment of client goals as outlined in their assessment
  • Participates in ongoing review of service delivery process and evaluation
  • Attends any educational inservices that are deemed appropriate by the Kinesiologist
  • Completes any program related administrative duties as needed
  • Assists the team in promoting the SMART program in the community
  • Adheres to VON Canada policies
  • Reports any situations that are deemed unsafe to their supervisor/manager
  • Ensures all incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with legislation and VON policies and procedures
  • Reports any defect in any equipment which may endanger themselves or others
  • Functions and reports in compliance with the OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.

Qualifications:


  • Must have Canfit Pro or Certified Exercise Instructor or equivalent qualifications/certification (ie; R.Kin, CSEP, )

Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle with current car insurance:

  • Must have valid CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Experience facilitating exercise programs for a senior population preferred
  • Innovative and flexible
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of your employment
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

Fast-paced environment; Attention to Detail; Carry using appropriate lifting techniques; Grip; walk, Sit, Stand, Climb stairs; Fine hand movements.
