The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Trade Management co-op student/intern for the summer 2023 (May to August or December) work term to work with our Trade Management team.

The Trade Management co-op/intern will work within our Investment Operations, Trade Management branch. This is a great opportunity for you to gain a broad understanding of investment industry operations and financial market transactions, while sharpening your analytical and project management skills


WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
Investment Operations (IO) is comprised of four branches: Trade Management (TM), Cash Operations, Business Solutions and Derivative Operations.

These teams support trade settlement, manage daily cash flows, provide technical support to all BCI and administer the derivative processing and collateral management for the Corporation.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING- Monitor, review, reconcile and analyze a wide variety and high volume of financial transactions to provide timely, accurate and efficient trade settlement for all asset classes in support of pooled accounts, individual accounts, portfolio managers, and departments of BCI- Work under the supervision of the Manager, Trade Management, to assist with various projects- Assist with TM Team initiatives and identify and resolve inefficiencies in current TM processes- Develop knowledge of relevant internal systems- Facilitate departmental initiatives, as required- Build and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with team members of Investment Operations and various departments' key operational personnel

THE IDEAL STUDENT- Has a passion for investment management and a drive to continually learn about financial markets and the investment process- Is proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel including the ability to use involved formulas and macros) and able to learn new technology quickly- Possesses organizing and planning skills that allow them to be highly productive and efficient; manage their own time wisely and effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks- Demonstrates strong team and communication skills; works well in team environments or independently, are proactive in sharing information and are easily accessible, approachable, and open; respond to communications promptly and effectively and escalate needed information to the appropriate person in a timely manner

REQUIRED SKILLS- A fundamental knowledge of finance, business and investment-related disciplines is essential- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing- Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills- Ability to work effectively in a close interdependent team environment- Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize- Strong attention to detail- Interest in operational investment management, commitment to the highest ethical standards and an eagerness to learn- Strong problem-solving abilities- Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel, Power BI - including the ability to use involved formulas and macros); Bloomberg experience is an asset- Previous work/intern/co-op experience or exposure to capital markets is preferred

THE DETAILS- Work term: Summer 2023 (May to August or December)- Department: Investment Operations-

Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC- Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island- Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location- All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office.
