Summary:


In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care (PHC), the position promotes a safe environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.


The Psychologist, Inner City Youth, reports to the Program Director, Mental Health and works under the clinical direction of the Professional Practice Leader, Psychology.

The Psychologist is in charge of psychological services for the Inner City Youth Program, and provides individual and group treatment for patients in the Inner City Youth Program.

The Psychologist works within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with the established standards of professional practice of the College of Psychologists of British Columbia and within the vision and values of the organization.

The Psychologist is responsible for the development, management and provision of psychology services within the assigned Program including supervision of assigned staff as required.

The psychologist participates in program planning and evaluation.


Qualifications / Skills and Education:

Education
Ph.
D. in Clinical Psychology plus one year supervised internship.

One (1) year of recent clinical experience performing diagnostic assessment and treatment of adolescents (aged 12 and older) and young adults in a Mental Health setting.

Experience and training in individual and group treatment of DSM-V disorders, specifically severe mood disorders, anxiety disorders and personality disorders; experience with clinical supervision, teaching and research.

Experience with concurrent disorders preferred and experience with disadvantaged youth an asset. Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, within one year of employment

Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of evidence based psychological practice.
Demonstrated ability to teach and provide clinical consultation to team members

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the provision of group and individual treatment using CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing and interpersonal therapy.

Demonstrated knowledge of psychological assessment and treatment methods and tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
Demonstrated knowledge of substance use assessment and treatment modalities including relapse prevention
Awareness of psychotropic medications and opiod replacement treatments
Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with and deal effectively with co-workers, clients and their families, both one-on-one and in groups.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
Demonstrated ability to teach and provide clinical supervision to psychology residents
Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including personal computer and related software such as Word and Excel.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Coordinates the development, management and provision of psychology services within the assigned Program through methods such as analyzing treatment needs and establishing and maintaining policies, procedures and guidelines.

Provides formal and informal consultation to other multidisciplinary team members of the program, other staff and students. Duties include reviewing client/family needs or a specific client's progress, problem solving and providing guidance/knowledge in the management of a client or client group and information regarding the appropriate usage of psychological treatments to facilitate learning and ongoing staff development

Provides teaching and consultation to assigned staff regarding the performance of clinical interventions. Provides input to the Operations Leader on staff performance. Establishes priorities and provides guidance and clinical advice to ensure program standards are met and safety procedures are followed. Forwards information on unresolved work issues to the Operations Leader for action.


Provides short term individual treatment and comprehensive group treatment to referred patients including development of treatment plans and leading sessions.

Attends clinical/case conferences or interdisciplinary rounds as a member of an interdisciplinary team for client reviews, admissions and discharges. Duties include providing input from a psychology perspective on a variety of care issues related to
