    HS&E Manager - Winnipeg, Canada - Graphic Packaging International

    The HS&E Manager is responsible for the environmental, health and safety performance in the Winnipeg facility, creating an injury free and environmentally sustainable workplace. HS&E Manager functions as a subject matter expert, partnering with the Corporate HS&E representative to plan and execute at the plant level, the successful implementation of risk-based prevention programs in the following areas: health, safety, and environmental in order to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries. Ensures all related plant level initiatives align with and support the corporate Safety & Environmental strategy, goals, objectives, guidelines, and standards. Partners with the Operations team to ensure both team and individual behaviors are aligned with the values and expectations of the Company's behavior- based safety culture.

    Job Functions

  • The HS&E Manager guides and promotes employee safety performance by developing safety systems, policies and procedures, safety campaigns, and programs to eliminate prevent or control injurious hazards, acts or behaviors and creating a safety-first culture.
  • This role is expected to be actively engaged on the floor, with employees at least 40% of the time.
  • Actively engages and collaborates with all department managers to conduct audits, training, safety goals procedures, etc., are clearly communicated and completed as required.
  • Provides support and technical assistance in the administration of and compliance with regulatory and company HS&E requirements. Responsible for implementing and sustaining HS&E programs and procedures by ensuring resources, tools and knowledge are available.
  • Partners with the Corporate HS&E Representative to develop, integrate and execute Corporate and Business Unit HS&E strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes, and actions to drive standardization and consistency while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct shop floor inspections and audits to ensure compliance with local and regional regulatory, permit and company requirements. Partner with operations to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are completed.
  • Lead/participate as a corporate HS&E audit team leader/member for annual HS&E compliance audits.
  • Is the lead for all incident investigations, compliance deviations and enforcement actions ensuring they are fully investigated to ascertain root cause(s) - for use in recommending preventive safety measures and improving the safety program. HS&E Manager is required to be part of every incident investigation on -site.
  • Liaison between Graphic Packaging Winnipeg and personnel at regulatory agencies as required.
  • Develop and implement safety incident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of organization.
  • Manage service accounts such as fire protection, first aid supplies, audiometric testing, industrial hygiene testing, and PPE suppliers.
  • Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
  • Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements

  • Degree/Certificate in HS&E Management.
  • Advanced certification in environmental, health, safety or related field is an asset.
  • Five years + experience in managing safety and environmental programs in an industrial setting dealing with air emission and hazardous waste issues.
  • Working knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and agencies
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to develop and conduct training on complex topics in a concise manner, appropriate to the audience.
  • Self-directing – organized.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects.
