Position Summary:


The Speech Language Pathologist Consultant will work as a member of the Specialized Therapy and Educational Play (STEP) program providing collaborative transdiciplinary support to students with various diagnoses.

This position will plan and implement individualized programming for children who attend Pre-Kindergarten at Scott Robertson School as well as children who attend Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or grade school at other schools both within and outside of Edmonton Public Schools.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:

- supporting the complex communication needs of children who have various diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Angelman Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy
- administering, interpreting and analyzing assessments using formal and/or informal measures of speech, language and communication
- identifying goals and strategies around receptive and expressive communication and play/engagement for each child and their family
- identifying a child's participation in their home, community and learning environments to determine the need for augmentative and alternative communication
- providing consultative services to families through home visits, parent group sessions, and/or through live video conferencing
- utilizing coaching skills to build the family's capacity to most effectively implement speech, language and communication strategies in the home and community
- supporting families with finding sources of funding for speech-generated communication devices, as necessary
- providing consultative service to the STEP program staff in the areas of specific communication disorders
- providing ongoing assessment to monitor progress and program efficacy
- collaborating with and/or referring to outside agencies
- consulting and collaborating with the classroom teacher and/or consultants to create and review the Individualized Service Program Plan for each child and their family who attend Pre-Kindergarten at Scott Robertson School


Education/Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology
- registered with Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists
- minimum of three years related experience in classroom-based service delivery to children
- excellent communication, collaboration and consultative skills
- experience with Alternative and Augmentative Communication methods


Rate of Pay:

$3, $4,344.90 bi-weekly
