THE OPPORTUNITY


Campfire Circle is currently seeking a Coordinator, Community Programs for a 1-year contract role to help bring the joy of Campfire Circle to the community setting.

The Coordinator, Community Programs is accountable for developing safe, fun and engaging camp-style programs that meet the needs of campers and families.

This position works to provide an enriching year-round camp experience directly to children and families through community and hospital programs in Ontario.

While this position plans and facilitates

Community Programs in several regions across Ontario, it will be primarily positioned in Hamilton.

The key accountabilities of this role include:
a) Create, facilitate and lead safe, fun and engaging camp-style programs that meet the needs of campers and families at Community Programs held in Hamilton and in regions across Ontario.

b) Design intentional camp-style programs for campers and families that provide a unique opportunity for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences. This includes leading both in-person and virtual camp programs.

c) Support, coach and lead volunteers in achieving safe, fun and engaging programs that facilitate friendship and fun.

d) Ensure that all aspects of programs, both online and in-person, are designed with safety measures in place to support an emotionally and physically safe experience.

e) Make arrangements and confirm all bookings, necessary permits and/or contracts required for programs are approved and submitted on time for successful program delivery and maintaining positive vendor relationships.


f) Ensure programs meet relevant accreditations and laws (including but not limited to Ontario Camps Association, Canadian Association of Paediatric Oncology Camps, AODA, PIPEDA).

g) Lead Day Camp programs, including but not limited to March Break Day Camp and Summer Day Camp programs.

h) Lead overnight programs including camping trips at campsites across Ontario.

i) Develop and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with Medical Staff and Child Life.

j) Contribute to accurate tracking of camper experiences.

k) Promote programs to patients and families in efforts to recruit and support every child eligible to participate in In-Hospital, Community and Overnight Programs.

l) Complete all administrative tasks required in the planning and follow up of programs.


ABOUT YOU

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required Criteria:_
  • Postsecondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a staff or volunteer working with children in a recreational setting.
  • Experience facilitating group programs.
  • Comfortable working in a hospital setting with seriously ill children.
  • Experience working with children with a variety of physical and development abilities.
  • Current police reference check and vulnerable sector screening.
  • Current driver's license and insurable under Campfire Circle's driving insurance policy.


In accordance with our mandate of creating a caring and safe environment for ill children and their families, we require attestation of childhood vaccinations, updated Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Screening, and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 for all of our staff.

We also require that all staff be currently eligible to work in Canada.

  • Advantageous Criteria:_
  • Experience supporting children with exceptionalities and challenging behaviours. Experience working with third party vendors and supporting logistics.
  • Experience creating or facilitating programming (in person and virtual) for children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families and an understanding of how illness impacts the entire family.
  • Experience working with and leading volunteers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working a very flexible schedule, with significant evenings and weekends.
  • Regularly working in a hospital setting.
  • Variety of working environments (occasionally working in an open office setting, may work outside for long periods, occasionally driving long distances, with overnight stays). This includes but not limited to, 23 day camping trips and day camps throughout the summer.
  • This position involves working in emotionally challenging environments and working with families in crisis.
  • The position may have the opportunity to attend and support programming at overnight camp.
