RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primary Counsellor role
- Group Facilitation
- Teaching Classes
- Oneonone Counselling
- Development of treatment plans based on clientcentered recovery goals
- Assessment & Referral
- Networking with community agencies
- Crisis/Conflict Intervention
- Recordkeeping
- Discharge Planning
- Continuing Care Followup
- Team Consultation and Decision-Making
- Case Management skills
- Weekly evening work required
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
- Undergraduate degree within the Human Services field, postgraduate degree in the mental health field, with eligibility to register with a Provincially regulated College
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in the addiction/mental health sector preferred
- Understanding of the continuum of addiction and concurrent disorders
- Knowledge and experience in women centered substance abuse counselling interventions / treatment models
- Knowledge and experience in social determinates of health and trauma informed care
- Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders
- Knowledge of culturally competent practices
- Maintain client records / files according to agency standards
- Knowledge and experience in addiction assessments, individual and group counselling and case management (or Gain Q3 tool)
- The ability to work individually and as part of a team
- The ability to work collaboratively with community partners
- Knowledge and experience with data management systems, particularly Catalyst
- Training and experience in the delivery of program in the following areas:
Ø Life Skills
Ø Mental Health Recovery skills
Ø First Aid/CPR
Ø Crisis/conflict management
Ø Pharmacology
Ø Client assessment
Ø Discharge planning
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective:
Ø Support group facilitation
Ø Classroom teaching
- Awareness of issues around and experience in dealing with:
Ø The marginalized population
Ø Spiritual issues in recovery
Ø Harm Reduction Strategies and resources
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Ø Has excellent communication skills
Ø Has an appreciation for diversity
Ø Possesses good judgment and problem solving skills
Ø Is committed to professional development
Ø Is able to effectively network in the community
Ø 40 hours per week - Monday through Friday
Ø 3 month probationary period
Ø Able to work within a union
