Job Summary:


The Community Connections Mentorship Program (CCMP) creates opportunities for newcomers to meet with mentors and partake in a wide range of activities related to employment, civic engagement, arts and culture, to help establish social and professional networks so that they are engaged and feel welcome in their communities.

The Program Worker recruits, trains, appreciates volunteers and matches them with newcomers, provides ongoing support to both mentors and clients and engages with the community to support program activities overall.

In-person work at one or more sites is required.

The Program Worker must also be proficient with technology and online tools (for example Zoom, Teams, Google Meets), and able to support clients to participate in virtual programs using technology and online tools.

Maintaining positive relationships with partners and CultureLink colleagues is essential to program success. All agency staff are also expected to support each other and collaborate on agency-wide initiatives.


Duties

  • Recruit newcomers, develop outreach materials, and screen, and orient newcomers;
  • Recruit volunteers, develop outreach materials, and screen, train and orient volunteer mentors;
  • Match newcomers and volunteer mentors focusing on interest, demographics, place based needs etc;
  • Outreach and partnershipbuilding initiatives with businesses, public agencies and institutions to explore strategies to engage volunteer mentors;
  • Consult and do a needs assessment with newcomer groups to build linkages between newcomers and immigrant serving agencies and the broader community;
  • Organize community dialogue sessions that will build knowledge and action supporting a welcoming community for newcomers;
  • Organize networking and volunteer appreciation events;
  • Review client background information, interview clients to obtain case history, needs assessment and prepare intake reports;
  • Assist clients in sorting out options and developing plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance, and referring them to other social services;
  • Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems;
  • Coach and assist mentors and mentees with establishing mentoring goals, and a plan of activities; monitor the process and outcome of matches;
  • Maintain program statistics using applicable report systems.

Required Work Capacities

  • Physical demands: sitting at a desk for computer work (50% of the workday) and meetings; lifting (files, laptop, and program supplies up to 5 kg); working in an open office
  • Nonphysical demands: travel between worksites, partner meetings; occasional deadlines; a variety of tasks
  • Social/emotional demands: teamwork; relationship/networkbuilding; exposure to emotional situations; working closely with the public, clients and colleagues
  • Cognitive/mental demands: attention to detail; selfsupervision/autonomy; multitasking; organizational ability/time management, adaptability, sound judgement, effective written communication

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary program or degree in a relevant field or a combination of equivalent experience and education
  • Three years of community work experience preferably working with newcomers
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening within the past six months
  • Fluency in languages other than English is an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Facility using digital outreach tools and social media (i.e. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Competency in Word, Excel, Outlook, power point and Internet
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Job Type:
Fixed term contract

Contract length: 5 months


Salary:
$28.10-$29.82 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

  • Toronto, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
