Nature and Scope:


The YMCA Youth Employment Bootcamp program is designed to support youth with barriers to employment to develop fundamental life, social and employability skills.

This occurs through a combination of case management, workshops and a practical work experience.


This position has the primary responsibility of supporting the staff team to deliver the program effectively, ensuring the program is meeting funder outcomes.

The position will also involve assisting in setting up structure and process for the delivery of the program, outreach to the community in order to promote and recruit participants, and establishing connections with businesses in order to develop job opportunities as participants move towards employment.

Additionally, the position will oversee facilitation, improve, and evaluate workshops related to life, social, and employability skills. The work environment is very fast-paced, with a high volume of program participants.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the delivery of a high quality program that meets government and YMCA requirements/standards
  • Provide leadership, training, coaching, and supervision to Case managers and Administrators.
  • Participate in full cycle HR processes with employees as necessary, including recruitment, orientation, training, coaching, development, and discipline
  • Ensure compliance with all terms of program agreements and support team to meet funding requirements including: targets, expenditures of funds, financial and statistical reporting
  • Implement and refine a promotions plan, ensuring that the outreach initiatives achieve program targets
  • Collect statistical and program information and create quarterly activity reports
  • Effectively respond to crisis and work with staff to implement behavioral management strategies
  • Relationship building with multiple stakeholders including referral agencies and community organizations (in particular, those working with youth with mental illness), government agencies and businesses
  • Conduct outreach in order to engage and recruit suitable participants
  • Recruit potential employers for work and volunteer opportunities for participants
  • Plans, participates in and supports Associationwide initiatives and fundraising events
  • Ensure the YMCA's reputation as charity of choice is understood and supported by the community
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards, policies and procedures

Qualifications:


  • Post-Secondary education in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education/ work experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience supervising staff or volunteers in community setting
  • Experience working with youth or persons facing barriers due to challenges with mental illness & substance use including concurrent disorders
  • Experience with developing and facilitating community based programming and services
  • Strong facilitation skills with proven experience in developing curriculum in life, employability and computer skills within an employment program setting
  • Awareness of local youth resources and willingness to develop community supports
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and multitask in high demand environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills


  • Computer proficient

  • Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Office 365)
  • High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR-C Certificate required, can be obtained within 30 days of start date
  • Requires access to a vehicle to travel to meetings with employer and community partners
