Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Volunteer Resources, the Gift Shop Manager is responsible for the cost effective and profitable operation of the St.

Paul's Hospital Gift Shop which produces profits that are donated to the Hospital annually.

Using marketing expertise, creative vision and a collaborative approach, the Gift Shop Manager ensures that the Gift Shop meets and exceeds diverse client needs and expectations.

Develops a business case for the Gift Shop including goals and objectives.

Supervises a team of volunteers who staff the gift shop, the Gift Shop Manager also deals with any performance issues that may arise with the volunteers in the Gift Shop.

Manages and maintains merchandise and vendor contracts; establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal and external clients and vendors.


Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education

Diploma in Business or Marketing Management, three to five years' recent, related retail management experience as well as experience in merchandising, marketing and advertising or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop and initiate marketing campaigns and strategies, utilizing all available marketing mediums and ensuring effective merchandising.
Ability to effectively manage contracts and relationships with external vendors such as credit cards, interact and flowers.
Demonstrated knowledge of current retail trends.
Demonstrated interpersonal, motivational, organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to promote and foster collaborative, respectful relationships with staff/volunteers while providing direction, guidance and feedback.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures the Gift Shop meets and exceeds the diverse client needs and expectations through marketing expertise, creative vision and a collaborative approach.


Prepares short and long term annual goals and objectives, reviews with the Gift Shop Committee and Director, Volunteer Resources, and directs operations toward their successful accomplishment.

Develops and implements policies and procedures for gift shop operations. Ensures paid and volunteer staff job satisfaction.

Manages and maintains merchandise and vendor contracts.

Establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal and external clients and vendors.

Supervises volunteer staff to ensure the efficient operation of the St. Paul's Hospital Gift Shop.

Develops training for staff/volunteers regarding new merchandise, displays, effective sales.

Conducts meetings and in-services for volunteers/staff as needed.

Oversees bookkeeping regarding sales, payment of invoices, accounts receivable ledger and journals. Prepares financial information for Director, Volunteer Resources.

Maintains the billing, collection and payments, and makes adjustments of defective merchandise and refunds.

Maintains the operating and balancing accounts for credit card operation.


Manages cash by checking and balancing register tape and sales sheet daily and balancing bank accounts monthly or as needed.

Develops annual sales plan, including employee sales, holiday sales, etc. Markets ship and services through hospital media such as PHC Connect and D'Vine.

Develops internal and external marketing plan to support sales goals.

Arranges displays as necessary, including in ship and alternate display locations throughout the facility.

Plans, schedules, organizes and presents special events and promotions.

Schedules the staffing of volunteers and arranges alternative coverage.

Coordinates year-end physical inventory.

Performs other related duties as required.
