Job Summary

  • The Registrar's Office (RO) is a large, multiunit, multisite operation involved in the entire academic experience of Dalhousie students, from recruitment and admissions through to convocation and beyond. Reporting to the Manager, Systems and Technology, the Systems Support Specialist provides and assists in supporting systems and technology both independently and in a team environment, plans and coordinates implementation of solutions keeping stakeholders informed of solutions, and creates and maintains documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify innovative and effective technical solutions and implement technical solutions to meet the requirements (this includes installation, configuration, and/or programming).
  • Implement solutions both independently and in a team environment (tasks include gathering requirements, developing solutions, testing solutions, documenting solutions).
  • Coordinate projects, liaise with stakeholders and ensure target deadlines are met and ensure quality assurance standards are met.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Manage users' access to IT services; create, modify and delete security access accounts as required.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, plus three to five years' experience in a technical support environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing small and medium scale projects.
  • Experience with various Server technologies e.g. Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, Hyper-V, MS SQL, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft SharePoint, Linux (CentOS and Debian).
  • Excellent customer service, problem solving, and analytical skills, along with ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Experience in various hardware/software installation and maintenance.

Assets

  • Experience in a university setting.
  • Programming skills.
  • Experience with Banner, JIRA and/or Footprints environments.
