The Organic Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day to day supervision of the laboratory operations. This position is given direction from the Lab Manager and provides direction and leadership to all lab staff.


Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform and mentor on all aspects of Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures and provide technical assistance for the lab
  • Perform laboratory analysis and technician duties as necessary
  • Responsible for promoting responsible and ethical work practices in the laboratory
  • Responsible for staffing and progression of lab team including setting objectives, evaluating performance
  • Maintain all lab instrumentation; ensure all instrumentation is operational
  • Ensure proper supplies are organized and in stock for regular laboratory operations
  • Ensure laboratory turnaround times are being met
  • Assist in root cause analysis and provides recommendation to Lab Management
  • Communicate lab daily activities and recommendation for improvement to lab management
  • Proactively participate in SRED projects including development of research project ideas annually. Ensure proper completion, tracking and documentation of SRED projects
  • Responsible for health and safety in the laboratory.
  • Ensure all SOPs are being followed, PPE is supplied and being used correctly
  • Report, review and authorize test results, as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma / degree in Science or equivalent experience required
  • 5+years hands on laboratory experience in a senior role
  • Experience with GC-MS, GC-FID required
  • Instrumentation operation and troubleshooting skills required
  • Ability to problem solve, coach, organize
  • Knowledge of full laboratory processes
  • Advanced Computer Skills including MS Office and Agilent Chemstation
  • Time management, multitaking, communication skills, prioritization of workflow
  • Ability to work in a positive manner in a fast paced environment

Work Environment
This position requires a person to stand, sit and lift throughout the shift in a laboratory environment. Manual dexterity is required to perform repetitive tasks. PPE is required where applicable.
