Program Overview - Language Programs, Community Programs
Newcomer Programs & Services has served newcomers and refugees in Toronto for over four decades. Its mandate is to help newcomers and refugees settle, adjust, and integrate into society.

Funded by the three levels of government, WoodGreen Newcomer Programs & Services operates English language training programs, settlement services, employment support programs, mentorship, networking activities, and social and recreational activities.

Newcomer Programs & Services is committed to providing friendly and professional services to all newcomers to help them connect with Canadian society and their new way of life.


What You Will Do

  • Provide a brief overview of programs and services offered.
  • Answer questions from clients in relation to reception and services and connect them to appropriate programs and services as requested.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records, including client intake forms and related documents.
  • Support outreach activities including flyers preparation and distribution.
  • Collaborate and cooperate with other staff within the unit to ensure clients' success and integration in programming.
  • Responsible for implementing all activities as per the annual workplan developed together with the manager within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Maintain all aspects of confidentiality relating to clients, volunteers, staff, community members and community partners.
  • Ensure the antiracism objectives and community development principles of the organization are respected and followed.
  • Participate in regular staff and unit meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as required from time to time.
  • Attend to program needs at various language program sites within Toronto.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Secondary school diploma.
  • 2 + years of reception/clerical/customer service/office administration experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to cultivate relationships while maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment.
  • Proven proficiency in verbal and written communication skills and familiarity with digital tools such as Office 365 and Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
  • Skilled in organization and multitasking; capable of meeting deadlines within collaborative team settings.

  • Thorough understanding of WoodGreen programs and services.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to interact with clients, volunteers, and staff from diverse backgrounds; additional languages spoken are an asset.
  • Ability to handle crisis and seek appropriate support when required; CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certificate an asset.
  • Passionate about facilitating newcomers' integration into Canadian society, with a keen enthusiasm for fostering welcoming and inclusive environments for clients.
