Startup Advisor.


Reporting to the Manager, Founder Experience, the Startup Advisor works directly with startup founders, helping entrepreneurs navigate through the support available to them through the Platform team, our programs, partners and community startup resources.

The Startup Advisor will support accomplishing team-wide goals, facilitating startup programming and working alongside external coaches and partners to help founders move their businesses forward.


The Startup Advisor will thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment that always looks for ways to help each other out and is committed to a city-wide culture of collaboration anchored in inclusion, diversity, accessibility and equity.

This role is a contract position through March 2025.


The day-to-day activities of the Startup Advisor will include:


  • Portfolio Management.
Work with a portfolio of scaling startup founders to assess startup needs and determine next steps in regards to the programming offered by Platform Calgary and/or other community resources, through 1:1 and 1:
many sessions.

Develop relationships with founders to establish an understanding of the company stage, needs and opportunities in order to appropriately make recommendations.

Conduct portfolio reviews and share insights with the team.

Facilitation. Responsible for delivery of programs (in person and/or online) offered by Platform Calgary, actively creating a safe and collaborative environment of learning. Liaison with Program Managers and Program Coordinators to ensure successful program delivery.

Partner Engagement. Engage with partner organizations and the broader tech ecosystem to understand programs and resources (advisory, programming, funding, etc.) available for startup founders, and connect startup founders to relevant resources as needed.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility. Assist in the development of initiatives that provide additional support to under-represented founders in the Calgary startup ecosystem and increase representation across programming, coaching and in the founder community. Advocate for under-represented and marginalized founders to ensure equitable and accessible opportunity is given.

Communication & Relationship Building. Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment across Founder Success initiatives. Develop and build on relationships with a team of Startup Advisors, coaches, investors and partners. Identify and connect founders and startups to appropriate ecosystem resources such as programs, networks and/or partners. Conduct follow up communication with companies post-programming and ensure progression through the engagement pipeline.

Founder Success. Highlight founder and startup trends and challenges to the Platform Calgary team. Act as the voice of the founder and provide input into program enhancements.


Other responsibilities include:


  • Act as an internal spokesperson on behalf of Platform Calgary on matters related to the successes and challenges of founders.
  • Act as a Platform Calgary ambassador, by attending community/ecosystem events, and actively seeking out startups that could benefit from becoming a Platform member or accessing our portfolio of startup programming.
  • 5+ years experience in entrepreneurship, a scaling tech company and/or startup programming is highly valuable.
  • Ability to work with a portfolio of companies across multiple sectors and of varying stages of maturity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with founders, partners and members.
  • Comfortable presenting to groups and facilitating discussions.
  • Ability to flourish with mínimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Knowledgeable about entrepreneur development and the regional startup ecosystem.
  • Competency in G-Suite, Asana, Slack, Eventbrite, HubSpot and Notion are considered an asset.
