Position Overview


Reporting to the Manager, Transportation and Facilities, Maintenance Worker is responsible for ongoing maintenance, oversight of repairs, co-ordination of maintenance work and the development and implementation of Preventative Maintenance Plans.

Prioritization and co-ordination with the management team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and prioritize work requests with management
  • Perform basic maintenance duties for our properties including:
  • Plumbing: un-clog sinks, toilets, showers and tubs; repair/replace toilets, faucets
  • Electrical: repair/replace broken switches/plugs/fuses; replace smoke detectors
  • Carpentry: repair/replace damaged wood trim; make doors/windows operable; repair/replace door/window hardware
  • Glazing: replace broken door/window glass
  • Painting: exterior and interior
  • Telephone: relocate phone lines; replace telephone units
  • Drywall repair
  • Unit turnaround overflow
  • Process maintenance work orders through completion
- conduct scheduled inspections and testing of building mechanicals and safety equipment and maintain proper documentation in our equipment and fire safety logs.

  • Maintaining the grounds of the facility (grass cutting, weed control, snow removal, washing windows, tables, smoking ashtray etc).
  • Assist employees, residents and visitors through exceptional customer service as needed or requested by Management to support Larga operations
  • Perform assigned duties promptly and accurately
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with security regulations
  • Assist with additional tasks as and when needed or assigned by management or Senior Maintenance both within and outside role and department to support Larga operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 to 2 years' similar experience in residential building maintenance

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to assess and prioritize work requests to determine the daily schedule
  • Sensitivity to our residents in a supportive environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong verbally and written communication skills
  • Available for major building system emergencies after hours if necessary
  • Ability to perform maintenance work safely
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to safely operate facility equipment (snow blower, lawn mower, weed trimmer, power tools etc.)
  • Familiar with residential building maintenance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and at least basic understanding of Inuktitut preferred
  • Ability to remain alert and maintain a high level of concentration
  • Good judgement and the ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of the Larga Baffin premises
  • Time management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inuktitut a strong asset
  • First Aid / CPR/ AED trained (or a willingness to learn)
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training (or a willingness to learn)
