As an Application & Technical Support Specialist 1, you will be responsible for providing on-site support to a designated number of long-term care homes and various other sites.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Schedules workload and sets priorities.
  • Leads team in identification and resolution of issues and problems.
  • Provides expertise in assessment, analysis, evaluation of alternatives and resolution of issues & problems.
  • Liaises and coordinates with internal & external groups on resolution of problems.
  • Recommends preventative solutions to mitigate recurrence of similar problems.
  • Develops and recommends improvements to current environment, policies & processes.
  • Acquires and disposes of hardware and software.
  • Maintains IT asset inventory in HPAM.
  • Configures network and server related hardware and software.
  • Monitors and maintains access and security of data and infrastructure.
  • Configuration of service hardware and software.
  • Advises desktop configuration management teams on hardware & software technologies and deployment alternatives.
  • Advises network management teams on hardware & software technologies, connectivity and backup & recovery alternatives.
  • Advises security management & control teams on securityrelated technologies and access control alternatives.
  • Performs capacity planning.
  • Reviews work of staff and provides training to them.
  • Prepares, directs, and recommends for approval training material and documentation for use by clients and staff.
  • Provides training to clients in use of technology.
  • Prepares statistics and drafts summary reports.
  • Supports the centralized management of access control.
  • Attends meetings, as required.

Key Qualifications:


  • A diploma or certificate in computer studies from a recognized University or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience working as a technical lead, coordinating with clients, divisional partners and external vendors to configure and troubleshoot technical issues with various supported software packages (e.g. Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office Suite, Firefox, Chrome and desktop imaging) in a large diverse computing environment.
  • Extensive technical support experience in the configuring, maintenance and support of the following: computers, peripherals, and printers.
  • A valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a motor vehicle.

You must also have:


  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision, exercise appropriate judgement, etc.
  • Customer service skills working with clients, service providers and/or staff to address service inquiries, requests and/or complaints.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and implementation.
  • Knowledge of City's IT policies related to purchasing and asset management.
  • Ability to lift/move equipment/boxes up to 40 lbs (18 kg).
  • Ability to work on evenings or weekends, as required for special projects.
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others in a multidisciplinary team.
