Summary


As an Activities Coordinator, you will assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents of all levels, in collaboration with the General Manager and the Care Management Team.

In alignment with resident care plans, this team is accountable for the assistance/supervision of resident recreational and social activities within The Village and the community.

Our Village homes residents of all levels which requires the ability to vary in aspects including cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual.

You will work directly with our residents and patrons to both spearhead daily activities and work with residents on a one-on-one basis.


You will be required to maintain administrative files, including budget and resident tracking, as well as maintain our volunteer schedule and organize collaboration with various members and organizations of the community.

We encourage teamwork and open communication with our staff and our residents, while maintaining a level of confidentiality.

This position requires shift flexibility, as some events and scheduled activities may take place on evenings or weekends.

You will be required to accompany and participate in activities both at Harbour Landing Village, as well as out on excursions where you will assume responsibility for supervising the residents.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:


  • Maintain effective communication with residents, volunteers and staff of other departments;
  • Encourage, track attendance and make notes on resident participation in various programs;
  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Programming Team;
  • Collaborate with the Care Management Team to ensure that the social, spiritual, mental and recreational needs of all residents are met in alignment with individual care plans.
  • Host socially and mentally stimulating daily activities including, but not limited to daily exercise classes, monthly birthday celebrations, entertainment, outings and special events;
  • Provide guidance to residents by leading, encouraging, demonstrating and assisting in planned activities when needed.
  • Collaborate with The Childcare Centre to coordinate Intergenerational activities;
  • Build/maintain the monthly programming calendar, daily activity sheets and monthly newsletter;
  • Capture and maintain resident "My Story" profiles and Leisure Diagnostic Assessments and sharing the data with the Care Management Team;
  • Assist in identifying and assessing the residents needs to develop fulfilling activities from their My Story profiles and Leisure Diagnostic Assessments to encourage more participation;
  • Develop and maintain department budget and track expenditures/transactions;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners;
  • Lead our resident Volunteer Club and facilitate various charitable opportunities for Harbour Landing Village and our residents.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with The Alzheimer Society and host monthly Caregiver Support Group meetings. (Must be willing to take an annual 4 hours of courses through the Alzheimer Society);
  • Set up and take down for special events our residents participate in;
  • Maintain Gathering Room calendar for all community rentals;
  • Visiting with residents who tend to recluse and need that oneonone attention;
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and company information and discusses only with appropriate personnel;
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices;
  • Assist in upkeep and maintenance of the Programming room and areas, ensuring professional presentation, cleanliness, and organization are maintained.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 12 years of experience with activity planning is an asset;
  • Degree or Diploma in the Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or Kinesiology; Experience in a retirement residence setting is preferred;
  • Experience working with seniors is an asset;
  • A valid provincial driver's license. (Class 1 driver's license an asset);
  • A valid Standard First Aid (OH&S) Level C Certificate;
  • A valid certificate in TLR (Transitioning, Lifting & Repositioning);
