DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to all student inquiries, including but not limited to the SMC undergraduate financial aid program, admissions, petitions, and college registration.
- Assist the Assistant Registrar, Student Services in preparing for and executing the Student Progress Project, reviewing student petitions for academic accommodations and exceptions prior to submission in the student facing petitions system.
- Assess student eligibility for the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP); verify student status for various scholarship trust funds such as Registered Education Savings Plans and communicate with insurance companies on student eligibility. Communicate with students to explain qualifications.
- Provide referrals to other services.
- Advise prospective students and parents on admissions procedures and college choice.
- Advise students on tuition and fee refund issues and interpret tuition policies.
- Inform, assist, and interpret transfer credit policies and decisions to students and advisors.
- Provide information on the Academic Calendar, Registration and Timetable to both newly admitted and returning students.
- Attend Faculty of Arts and Science professional development sessions as well as opportunities offered by the Office of the Faculty Registrar and external bodies. Participate in regularly scheduled Office Staff meetings.
- Investigate exceptions to policies and work with the Registrars to determine or clarify an interpretation or exception of a rule.
- Support and provide backup to the Registrars as required.
- Assist with SMC recruitment efforts, on
- campus, occasionally during non-regular office hours.
- Assist with communications in various social media channels and help to keep relevant web pages updated.
- Serve as liaison with other departments on eventrelated matters (food services, facilities, conferences).
- Ensure that the Registrar and Director of Student Services is kept aware of topics that require immediate attention.
Other
- Assist with other office functions and administrative duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- One to three years working in a related capacity in a postsecondary environment. University of Toronto experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer, Awards Explorer and related features is a definite asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, be flexible, take initiative, and work independently.
- Ability to work well in a crosscultural environment.
- Excellent oneonone and large group communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and tactfully with students (will have some encounters with students in crisis), administrators, employees, representatives of other educational institutions, agencies, and the public.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Highly organized, articulate, conscientious, diplomatic; good listener; demonstrates good judgment and reliability; service oriented with a friendly manner.
- Experience creating, posting, and managing social media and web content.
- Ability to create and edit documents in Microsoft Suite, in particular Excel, Word, Power Point and Sharepoint.
EDUCATION
- University or college diploma/degree in any area.
- Related degrees and qualifications are considered an asset.
