Summary


The Human Resources Advisor (HRA) uses a consultative approach to partner with assigned client groups to help recommend and implement Human Resources (HR) strategies and frameworks that drive organizational capacity and results in support of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)'s business objectives.

As a well
- rounded HR generalist, the HRA provides confidential HR guidance, counsel, and support to their assigned client portfolio in areas including Organizational Effectiveness; Workforce Planning and Talent Management; Employee Relations; Total Rewards; and Health and Wellness.


Main Responsibilities - Essential Duties

Employee Relations (Health, Wellness)

  • Handle highly sensitive employee relations matters, complying with legislation and CFPC's policies, including independently conducting investigations and completing related documentation
  • Lead complex employee relations issues and participate in dispute resolution management, serving as a leadership coach, providing counsel and feedback to optimize leadership effectiveness for their client portfolio
  • Provide regular proactive engagement with managers in their client portfolio to address potential issues or concerns; obtain an ongoing understanding of the priorities and workflow of their client divisions
  • Maintain effective disability/sick leave and longterm disability claims management including Early and Safe Return to Work accommodation practices in collaboration with managers, employees, medical practitioners, third party providers
  • Interpret and administer regulations, legislation, and company policies as they relate to employee health including but not limited to the applicable occupational health and safety, workplace safety, human rights and employment standards legislation.
  • Lead the process for administering any requests for leaves of absence and return to work including the proactive orientation and follow

Talent/Performance Management

  • Liaise with the hiring manager to craft and revise job descriptions based on the Job Information Questionnaire including conducting the necessary research for new or revised job descriptions
  • Provide backup fullscope recruitment support and services as needed
  • Monitor the probationary and annual performance review process for completion and effectiveness and coach people managers and business leaders in effective people management practices

Total Rewards (Compensation, Benefits and Pension)

  • Ensure alignment of compensation philosophy, including compensation for new hires and internal transfers
  • Function as first point of contact for benefits administration, claims resolution and plan inquiries
  • Responsible for the timely, accurate pension administration during all phases of the employee life cycle

Organizational Effectiveness (HR Strategy, Professional Practices, Learning and Development)

  • Provide expertise and recommendations to develop, enhance and implement effective policies, programs, services and/other initiatives
  • Participate in the business planning process and implement employee strategies to support major initiatives
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators; leverage data within the assigned client group and organization wide to identify trends that may affect assigned client groups; prepare data for HR dashboard
  • Provide support and input to the Learning and Development Specialist with the development of innovative and accessible organizational, leadership and employee development solutions that align with business strategies and provide continued learning experiences for employees
