Job Summary:

This role reports to the Supervisor, Nutrition Services, providing input towards the day-to-day operations.

This includes providing quality service and products to residents, completing stock rotation, maintaining awareness of food quality and safety as well as preparing and handing food.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Review all incoming food to the receiving kitchen (dry, refrigerated and frozen) for order completeness and damage.
  • Complete stock rotation, thus keeping stock to a minimum.
  • Maintain cost awareness in receiving, preparation and storage with an emphasis on food quality and safety while minimizing waste.
  • Report to the Team and Supervisor any perceived quality or other issues in a timely manner.
  • Plan and organize each workday based on the needs of the operation based on production sheets, reviews production sheets one week ahead.
  • Assemble and distribute goods for the residents of the facility.
  • Prepare and handle food following food safety practices.
  • Clean and sanitize storage areas, food processing area and equipment.
  • Promote team work by providing input to the decision making process governing day to day operations to prevent delays in providing quality service and products to residents.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:


Essential

  • Successfully completed or are enrolled in a Food Service Worker training program at an established college or registered private career college in Ontario.
  • Possess a valid and current Food Hander Certificate.
  • Be team oriented, possess effective communication skills and have a genuine desire to work with the elderly.
  • Have an understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry Long Term Care.

Preferred

  • One year of related experience in quality food preparation and knowledge of ingredient and food inventory.

Working Conditions

  • Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen
  • Current twostep tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by your first day of employment.
