Position Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced HR professional looking to join a growing and global organization within the maritime sector.
Major Responsibilities
Employee Relations
- Acts as the main point of contact for all Vancouver based employees on all HR related matters and provides timely support wherever required.
- Actively drives employee engagement initiatives to maintain and improve organizational culture and morale (together with the Office Manager for Vancouver).
- Manages employee relation issues by providing practical advice to managers and employees on resolution techniques.
- Ensures compliance with federal regulations, corporate policies and processes and advises local management on the same.
- Coaches managers on the full lifecycle management strategies from recruitment, learning and development, succession planning to offboarding.
- Maintenance of personnel files and ensuring all required documentation is on file.
Recruitment and Onboarding:
Manage all local recruitment, including:
- Manages relationships and vendor agreements with any and all third parties.
- Proactively keeps recruitment costs to a minimum and looks to promote internal talent, wherever possible.
- Conducts new hire onboarding sessions to ensuring Seapeak standards are adhered to.
- Ensures that any training requirements are identified, documented and completed.
- Oversees that probationary reviews are completed in a timely manner and onboarding surveys are completed.
- Champions the annual performance management program by coaching employees and managers through performance discussions and delivering training sessions to ensure this is a meaningful and valuable process across the organization.
- Encourages managers and employees to provide realtime and continuous feedback rather than reserving this for midyear and end of year reviews.
- Engages with line managers to ensure that performance concerns are proactively managed.
- Engages with employees and managers to ensure career progression opportunities are identified and discussed, wherever possible.
- Collaborates with the wider team in identifying, coordinating and facilitating leadership development programs and generally to assist senior managers and employees in identifying training gaps within their respective teams.
- Coordinates engagement surveys, as appropriate.
- Inputs and coordinates the biweekly payroll for the Vancouver office ensuring all payroll transactions are processed accurately while complying with federal, state and local regulations for BC.
- Manages annual payroll processes to include production of T4s.
- Demonstrates a deep knowledge of the local tax regime in troubleshooting any payroll or benefit related queries whether from an employee or employer perspective. For example, management of the SRBP.
- Assists the HR (Payroll and Benefits) Manager in taking a proactive approach to the management and development of employee benefits, ensuring that Seapeak are always competitive within the local market.
- Assists Director, Human Resources with administration of annual merit program and shortterm incentive program in the HCM.
- Inputs to the improvement or creation of global initiatives and processes.
- Participates in local audits and prepares any necessary reports.
- Chairs the global CSR committee and produces the quarterly report.
- Collaborates with the ESG Manager to ensure a progressive approach to all people related matters pertaining to the annual ESG report.
- Oversees the local approach to workplace flexibility and has responsibility for ensuring the correct balance is struck.
- Participates in the implementation and rollout of a new HCM.
- Supports other HR projects as needed.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- University Degree or Diploma in Human Resources.
- Minimum of 5 years' HR experience in a generalist capacity including demonstratable knowledge of payroll processing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (preferably with experience of report and policy writing)
- Excellent human relations, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships and partnerships.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work well both independently as well as part of a team.
- Take initiative and has a willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
- Able to manage confidential matters in a discreet manner.
- Technically savvy with expert level computer ski
