    Overview:

    Pembina Pipeline Corporation's Sherwood Park, AB office is recruiting for a Telecommunications Technologist to join the team. This position reports to the Supervisor, Field Communications in the Information Services Unit, (ISU).

    The Information Services Unit of Pembina's mandate is to perpetually enhance the data, security, and integrity of our network, safeguarding it from breaches, disruptions, and the destruction of sensitive information. We rely on the ingenuity of our skilled team, who are ceaselessly seeking innovative methods to refine our processes and existing technologies. Our objective is to work in synergy with our clients and colleagues to implement cutting-edge technologies that not only improve our operational efficiency and reduce costs, but also contribute to environmental solutions addressing climate change challenges.     Pembina's Information Services Unit operates a wide area operational technology communications network that consists of microwave, satellite, SCADA, voice radio and various data communications technologies. Located in Fort St. John, BC or Grande Prairie, AB, they will report to the Supervisor of Field Communications West.

    Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

    • The installation, maintenance, repair, and documentation of telecommunications and networking equipment including but not limited to routers, switches, modems, digital radio systems (including microwave), antennas, satellite, and voice systems;
    • Providing data transport of various communications protocols and formats including serial and IP (Nokia MPLS, TCP/IP);
    • Initiate, design, document, and maintain telecommunications systems at tower sites and pipeline facilities;
    • Install and upgrade new and existing field facilities to meet Pembina's growing need for further information gathering and control of assets;
    • Provide support to Field Communications team and to Pembina Pipeline Operations;
    • Supervise contractors and provide on-call coverage as required;
    • Regular travel to remote Pembina locations;

    Qualifications:

    • We are seeking a Network, Telecommunications, Electronics, or Wireless Systems Technology (or equivalent) graduate. Field experience is a definite asset but not essential;
    • Post-secondary education from a recognized technical training institution (such as NAIT, SAIT, BCIT, etc.);
    • The ideal candidate has 2+ years' experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting medium to large scale networks;
    • Experience with Nokia, 4RF, iDirect or Cisco telecommunications hardware/networks is an asset;
    • Experience with microwave and narrow band radio systems as well as SCADA communications would be an asset;
    • Must be a self-starter and dedicated team member;
    • Must be willing to work in both office and field environments;
    • Ability to perform with minimal supervision;
    • Ability to multitask and respond to time constraints and deadlines;
    • Commitment to expanding knowledge and experience in the telecommunications field;
    • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
    • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License depending on location; and
    • Comfortable with safely driving a full-sized pick-up truck on Oil Field/Haul roads.

    This position is considered "Safety Sensitive" and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver's Abstract.

    Position requires applicant to reside within 50km of Sherwood Park, AB.
