Utility Worker - Onsite

Schedule:
Four hour shifts - Monday to Thursday
Job Summary
The Utility Worker, under the direction of the Project Supervisor, will perform work associated with general labor, grounds maintenance, removal of waste and clean-up and other duties as assigned.
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e.
Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent; and
- Valid Class 5 or higher driver's license.
Abilities and Skills
The incumbent should have:
- Must complete CNL specific training as identified and scheduled by the Branch Manager.
- Group 3 Radiation course and all applicable online and classroom training set out by the company.
- Computer skills an asset, especially knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and Oracle.
- Basic record keeping skills for tracking grounds maintenance materials, waste disposal logs, and recycling.
- Load and unload vehicles.
- Carry out disposal duties and pick up waste active and inactive.
- Move furniture, construction materials and other heavy items.
- Provide support for digging, excavating, and shoring.
- Carry out landscaping functions as required.
- Clear brush, ditches, and fire breaks.
- Carry out road repair functions (potholes, crack sealing) as needed.
- Erect fencing and barricades.
- Clear snow; spread sand on icy roads, walkways and entrances.
- Perform general site maintenance and groundskeeping duties as directed, including operation of powered equipment both handheld and ride on such as: Weed Trimmers, Industrial Leaf Blowers, Industrial Riding Grass Mowers, Tractor Powered Sickle Mower, Powered Soil Compactor, Chain Saws, Compressed Air Hammers and Scabblers, Industrial Self-Propelled Snow Blowers, Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs).
- Ability to operate other small heavy equipment considered an asset.
- Operate diamond drilling equipment, including use on scaffolds or other difficult locations.
- Provide trades assistance/support on work projects.
- Must be punctual, dependable and safety minded.
- Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one's work.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.
- Highly motivated and able to work with mínimal supervision.
- Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs.
- First Aid and/or CPR considered an asset.
- Other duties as assigned.
Functions and Responsibilities
Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Observe all plant Regulations especially safety, health and radiation hazard control regulations.
- Must be physically capable of performing the manual work required for all duties in this classification.
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
- Must be responsible, reliable and possess initiative.
- Must be customer focused and able to work independently as well as work well with others part of a team with coworkers and project leads from other departments.
- Must be available to work bank time/overtime or on call as needed to meet seasonal duty demands such as snow clearing, sanding, street/parking lot cleaning, and special projects support.
- Must be able to pass an "enhanced" security check. Attaining Group 3 Radiation Protection Training is required. Worker becomes "Nuclear Energy Worker" pursuant to CNSC regulations and CNL's radiation protection program requirements.
