Reporting to the Grounds Utility Foreperson, the Utility Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance of School District equipment and assets located on the school grounds.


A Utility Worker is responsible for inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and removing chain-link fencing, Ronco fencing, gates, signs, basketball standards, and playground equipment.

The successful applicant will assist and carry out minor construction projects involving concrete mixing and finishing, drainage investigations and repair, hardscaping, signpost installations, and fencing installations.

They will possess knowledge of standard construction and maintenance practices, safe work procedures and experience operating various power tools, problem solving, and interpreting drawings.

The Surrey School District prides itself in providing our facilities staff with excellent work-life balance. This is a temporary full-time position effective the earliest date upon completion of record check. This unionized position offers an attractive hourly wage of $25.


35 plus benefits package:
municipal pension, health, vacation & sick benefits. Effective date per collective agreement.


Applicants must have:

Completed grade 12 or equivalent;
A valid Class 5 Unrestricted Driver's License;
Three months' recent experience performing a variety of maintenance tasks utilizing light to medium mobile construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles, or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
Valid Canadian Certified Playground Inspector (CCPI) status an asset;
