University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The scope of research and complexity of cases at UHN have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. Research across UHN's five research institutes spans the full spectrum of diseases and disciplines, including cancer, cardiovascular sciences, transplantation, neural and sensory sciences, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation sciences, and community and population health. Duties will include processing of patient samples (blood and tissues), antibody titration, flow cytometry, media preparation, tissue culture, data logging as well as general laboratory upkeep and maintenance.

Outstanding organizational skills with the capacity to ensure proper compliance with research protocols and biological safety measures is mandatory. Previous experience in a laboratory environment is strongly recommended. Proficiency in English with excellent communication skills will be required.


Qualifications:


  • At minimum, completion of a Community college diploma or Bachelor's degree in a healthrelated discipline (or equivalent)
  • At minimum, three (3) to six (6) months of experience handling biological specimens and in some or all of the following areas: oncology, immunology, cell culture, laboratory work, flow cytometry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures related to handling, storing and testing of specimens including biological safety.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, good computer skills, ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure with an attention to detail and perform multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Basic math and computational skills are essential to this position.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to learn.
