Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research.
Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.Position Overview:
The Psychology Department has approximately 20 regular faculty members, plus assorted stipendiary employees. This position is that of a part-time research assistant to Professor Justin Friesen.
The employee will provide support and assistance related to his SSHRC-funded research within the area of social psychology for 0-14 hours per week.
Duties:
- Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis, and interpretation.
- Employee will run human participants through psychological studies using standardized procedures.
- Prepare equipment and materials for research.
- Employee will maintain lab equipment and spaces (e.g., set up computers or other office furniture; move paper records for storage or disposal).
- Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports, and presentations.
- Employee may prepare reference lists and perform other copyediting duties related to publications.
- Prepare literature reviews.
- Employee may search for relevant papers or articles using PSYCInfo, Google Scholar, and other databases.
- Assist in the acquisition of research materials and supplies.
- Employee may be asked to collate, rate, or process examples of study stimuli (e.g., photos) to find materials appropriate for future research.
- Perform data/word processing and record keeping.
- Employee will assist recordkeeping related to data collection and publications.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
- Employee will facilitate any public health protocols required for inlab research.
- Any other miscellaneous tasks related to psychological research.
- Attend lab meetings with students/faculty to discuss lab procedures and research findings.
Qualifications:
- Honours Psychology major (a current undergraduate student or one who is likely to continue into graduate studies is preferred).
- Completion of PSYC2101 and 2102 required, PSYC4100 preferred.
- Coursework in social/personality psychology and social psychological research methods (e.g., PSYC4410) preferred.
- Excellent academic record preferred.
- Experience with SPSS, MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and Qualtrics required.
- Experience with UW SONA systems required.
- Experience with DirectRT/Medialab, E-Prime, Adobe Photoshop preferred.
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds, work in enclosed lab rooms, operate computers and eyetracking equipment, and greet and explain study procedures to research participants.
- Experience with experimental psychology research using online & behavioural methods.

The period of work will be from
February 13, April 30, 2024 and the estimated total hours of work will be
0-160 hours.
