Position
The Goping Lab is a basic research laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry. We investigate the biology of breast cancer. Our main experimental approaches are cell-based assays, tissue-based assays, mouse work, microscopy, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

The Goping Lab is seeking a full-time laboratory technician to assist with experiments and day-to-day operational activities, under the direction of the principal investigator and senior research team.

The position is for 9 months with the possibility of extension.


Duties:


  • Performs cellbased assays such as standard 2D mammalian cell culture and 3D cell culture of breast cancer patientderivedorganoids
  • Performs microscopy, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and other cell/tissuebased assays
  • Performs biochemical assays such as western blotting and molecular biology
  • Performs mouse model work related to breast cancer studies
  • Ensures maintenance of all equipment especially tissue culture incubators, laminar hoods, fridges, freezers, liquid nitrogen tanks, and other equipment
  • Ensures lab is compliant with biosafety and environmental health and safety
  • Purchases basic supplies and maintains lab reagent inventory
  • Provides training to students and lab personnel regarding safety and experimental protocols

Qualifications:


  • BSc or Lab Technology diploma (e.g. biochemistry, cell biology, biology)
  • 3 years+ experience working in a wet lab
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture, basic biochemistry techniques, microscopy are assets
