  • Temporary 8-week position, summer job through the Canada Summer Job Program, starting June 2024
  • Location: Abbotsford and Mission / on-site
  • This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), which has certain requirements and encourages the hiring of youth with disabilities, Indigenous, Black, and other racialized youth, and youth in the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

    Youth must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, at the time of their start of employment at Archway.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, immigrant with permanent residency status, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • NOTE: International students are ineligible for this program.
  • The Canada Summer Jobs program objectives are to:

  • provide quality experiences for youth;
  • respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers to employment, , youth who are early leavers of high school, not in employment, education or training; Black and other racialized youth; youth with disabilities; Indigenous youth; 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and
  • provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills.
  • Job Summary

    The CSJ Recycling and Public Awareness Ambassador will help at the front drop-off and mobile depot and educate the public about recycling. They will also assist in implementing activities for public relations displays during community events.

    Your Role:

    Archway's CSJ Recycling and Public Awareness Ambassador with the Recycling Program contributes by:

  • Assisting at the public drop-off recycling depots in Abbotsford and Mission.
  • Engages with visitors about the Recycling Program and asks for feedback.
  • Educates visitors on program accepted items and fields questions.
  • Assists with outreach events, such as Berry Fest, including event planning, set-up and take-down.
  • Provides information to the public about local recycling and environmental issues.
  • This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys talking to the public, enjoys working outdoors, has an interest in public education and outreach, and has great interpersonal and communication skills.

    Our Offer

  • Wage:$ per hour.
  • A full-time position at 35 hours per week, availability Monday to Friday, and some weekends.
  • Temporary for 8 weeks, starting in late May-early June 2024.

  • The Job Requires you to have: :

  • A valid BC Driver's license and satisfactory driver's record.
  • Good verbal, written, and active listening communication skills; able to communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and varying levels of English.
  • An interest in public education, and ability to conduct outreach activities.
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to interact with visitors.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to understand and use digital systems, tools and applications, and to process digital information.
  • Ability to develop education information sessions by assessing and developing the Recycling's education program.
  • Ability to have in-person contact with on-site staff and clients; adherence to health and safety protocols is required.
  • Flexibility to work statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  • Ability to drive for program-related work; must have own, personal, reliable vehicle, which will be insured according to Archway policy
  • Physical fitness; must be physically fit and able to work in a hands-on industrial and outdoor (all-weather) environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors.
  • Your own CSA approved safety shoes/boots.
  • The ability to wear PPE protective equipment, including a high visibility vest.
  • ​​​​​​Eligibility to meet Canada Summer Jobs requirements of being between 16 to 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible participants, including anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
