What you'll do
Nature & Scope of Work The School of Tourism Management is looking for a tourism or outdoor recreation professional to teach TOUR 456 Land Use and Tourism Operations and REC 15- Environmental Stewardship I.
TOUR 456 is part of the Bachelor of Tourism Management (Adventure Concentration) program.This course is designed to increase students' awareness of issues related to operating tourism businesses on various land ownership types.
A case study approach to this course provides students with a variety of solutions for dealing various land use issues.
REC 152 is a foundational course open to both students in our Outdoor Recreation Management diploma program and our Bachelor of Tourism Management program.
Course outline and access to materials is provided but it is expected that the instructor will continue to build on existing course content to include topical and relevant resources, experiences, and examples.
What you'll bring
Qualifications Required:
- Masters in Tourism Management, Geography, Resource Management, Sciences, or related fields.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Preferred:
- PhD in related field.
- Relevant adult education training and/or qualifications such as the Provincial Instructors Diploma Instructional Skills Workshops.
Industry Experiences and Competencies Required:
- Applied tourism industry or outdoor recreation experience, or practical experience in a related field.
- Applied experience and comprehensive knowledge of environmental and sustainability policy and planning and how they impact outdoor recreation and tourism businesses.
- Applied experience and comprehensive knowledge of land management issues and how they impact tourism businesses from an operational perspective.
- The ability to engage students through a combination of theoretical content based and applied teaching methods.
Preferred:
- Considerable applied experience at a management level in tourism planning and sustainability, at a community, regional, destination or higher level.
- A record of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level.
- Publication(s) on a relevant topic(s) or in related field(s).
