Overview

  • We currently employ approximately 25 staff, servicing municipal, commercial, residential and provincial asphalt paving markets. Vernon Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages. We offer a safe work environment, onthejob training, uptodate, wellkept equipment and room for advancement. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location and work sites are throughout the North Okanagan.
  • Lafarge is looking for an experienced
    Asphalt Plant Operator Trainee to join our fastpaced operation. The duties of an
    Asphalt Plant Operator Trainee include, but are not limited to, the following.

Responsibilities:


  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers by addressing issues, questions or concerns promptly
  • Monitors operational effectiveness through analysis of Key Performance Indicators
  • Ensure consistent production to meet daily orders
  • May require considerable physical activity, must be capable of heavy lifting, bending and twisting
  • Responsible for completing the daily checklist, journal and reports
  • Offloading hot asphalt oil
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Continuously communicating with plant operators, truckers, quality control and dispatch
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Safety Environment:
  • Adhere to all company safety and environmental practices and policies
  • training provided
  • Seek out and implement Best Practices
  • Communicates and promotes safety, compliance, and environmental requirements in alignment with Company standards
  • All spills must be first contained and the proper authorities notified immediately thereafter (following written procedure)
  • Monitor by daily completion of Plant checklist
  • Contribute toward the overall success of the safety program by following set rules, procedures and practices
  • Identify and report workplace hazards and make positive suggestions for their elimination or control
  • Generally, perform duties in the safest manner prescribed
  • Required PPE must be worn at all times
  • Maintenance:
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment and plants, including keeping accurate and thorough records of plant performance and production
  • Other:
  • Fully trained in the operations and capability of running an Asphalt plant
  • Ability to run mixing operations on the plant to ensure material quality and compliance with specifications
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and deal effectively with people using a facilitative approach, including scaling, ticketing and assisting in asphalt orders
  • Required to understand general knowledge and intermediate computer skills

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 1 years of Asphalt operations/productionrelated experience.
  • Heavy machinery/equipment experience
  • Schedule:
  • This position will require weekend work and may include night shifts. The position often requires overtime and working in all types of climate
