Role Summary


Reporting directly to the HSE Manager, Canadian Operations, the HSE Advisor role provides key functional support as a member of the HSE department in addition to providing direct support for both the Edmonton Corporate office, manufacturing facility and field bases.

Provide training, mentorship and supervision to other HSE administrators and demonstrate knowledge of the Lifting Solutions' policies, procedures and best practices.

Provides input into specific areas and utilizes processes to select available resources to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness in completing routine assignments and special projects/tasks.

Operates independently with mínimal direction as a member of the team to plan, organize and execute all tasks in the appropriate manner.

Administration experience and expertise will be required to manage Canadian WCB accounts (AB and SK), Partners in Injury Reduction program, and disability management (return-to-work) programs.


Key Responsibilities
Safety Management System Design

  • Updating the LS Safety Management System and monitor for changes in legislation, Client requirements and required internal improvements
  • Research and develop processes, Codes of Practice and safe work procedures/practices that are either not present or are lacking in sufficient detail
  • Develop and distribute Safety Alerts, Quarterly Safety Focuses and corporate HSE communications as required including measurement methods, analysis of results and distribution to all company management
  • Champion the LS Contractor Management process for the organization
HSE Advisor for Canadian Operations

  • Shared function as an Advisor across Canadian Operations, including coaching management and supervision in the LS Safety Management System, guiding supervision through the hazard assessment process, development of task specific JSA and participation in facility inspections and safety meetings
Organization

  • Use coordination and time management skills to meet deadline requirements and fill additional requests as needed
Communication and Team Support

  • Work with and provide guidance to other team members within the department
  • Provide backup support as well can crossfunctionally work with colleagues
  • Train and mentor other team members as required
  • Provide updates and reporting to the HSE team to ensure alignment within department
Other

  • Understand and use effectively the LS Safety Management System to make decisions and follow policies and procedures
  • May be responsible to ensure that general office duties are performed as required including handling of personal / sensitive documents
  • Ensure proper direction of health, safety and environment activities on all projects and product lines within designated region
  • Maintains open lines of communication with project and worksite personnel in order to be aware of any developing issues
  • Develop plans to reduce incidents by identifying risks and ensuring required risk management plans are implemented by product line (Supply Chain, PCP and Field Services) and Region
  • Ensures HSE & Transportation Compliance training is provided to personnel according to a skills development assessment tool
  • Ensures that all incidents are investigated, reviewed and follow up on the effectiveness of gap closure
  • Participates in investigations of serious incidents and major failures and advises management of required corrections
  • Coach colleagues at the worksite level on the implementation of safe work policies and procedures
  • Building stakeholder relationships
  • Bid/MSA/RFQ development participation
  • Trending in Regions identification & interpretation
  • Maintain visibility in industry related associations and regulatory bodies such as OHS, DOT, PSAC, Enform etc.
  • Lead and Participate in the internal SafeCheck Audit process and determine the effectiveness of gap closure
  • Participate in the Alberta COR Audit process
  • Strategic planning by Region and Function
  • Participate in team "Big Rock" conference calls
  • Communicate learnings to enable sharing of incident corrective actions.
  • Review and vet safe work practices and procedures once submitted to Corporate HSE
  • Work closely with the HSE team to improve the effectiveness of statistical reporting
  • Communicate the learning's from Corporate HSE workshops and implement gap closures
