The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women,
girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the
cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.


We are recruiting for a Part Time, Support Worker for Transition to New Beginnings. Located in
Burnaby, Transition to New Beginnings, supports pregnant and newly parenting women and their
babies, and individual women in addressing their substance use. Staff work with clients on case
planning, substance use goals, parenting, health needs, planning for long term stability and community
- based support. The program is registered with the Assisted Living Registry and provides support for 3-5
months. The program is staffed 56 hours a week.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Model positive, healthy behaviours and build rapport with clients, supporting them as they practice
setting boundaries, effective communication skills, conflict resolution, and contribute a safe,
respectful environment.

  • Monitor the program and clients to ensure a welcoming, safe, supportive environment.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of client, program, and case planning activities.
  • Perform housekeeping duties ensuring quality control for all equipment and maximum cleaning
effectiveness.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Diploma in a related human/or social services field and a minimum one (1) year recent experience
in a bed-based environment, preferably with substance use services, or equivalent combination of

education and experience.

  • Minimum 20 hours of training in substance use and/or addictions.
  • Understanding of substance use and mental health.
  • Understanding of cultural safety and traumainformed practice.
  • Experience working in a licensed or registered facility is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS word, excel, outlook and data entry.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • Food Safe Level
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C.

  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
  • Doctor's Note of fitness required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
