Maintenance Technician (M2)


Location:
ALS Geochemistry, Winnipeg


Reports to:
Branch Manager


About the Position:


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Routine maintenance and repairs on equipment such as heating and A/C units, blowers, and scrubbers remove and replace as required or send for servicing;
  • General building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles and painting;
  • General preparation; equipment maintenance and repair;
  • Plumbing and carpentry work;
  • General grounds keeping duties;
  • Locate and install new equipment;
  • Basic electrical (noncertified);
  • Parts fabrication;
  • Supply shopping;
  • Spare Parts Storage;
  • Keep service area clean & organized;
  • Maintain and organize all tools;
  • Repair bins as required if time permits;
  • Must be available for emergency callins during nonworking hours if required;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by Branch Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong mechanical aptitude;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong command of the English language;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent problemsolving skills;
  • Ability to work under general supervision;

Required Qualifications:


  • Some experience in general building repairs and operations is preferred;
  • Experience working with plumbing, electrical carpentry, drywall and/or painting will be an asset;
  • Experience maintaining sample prep equipment an asset;
  • Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset.

Physical Demands:


  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines;
  • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels;
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
