    POSITION TITLE Registered Practical Nurse SHIFT TYPE Rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, & holidays DEPT/PROGRAM Beckwith B JOB CLASS Registered Practical Nurse EMPLOYMENT TYPE Full Time RATE OF PAY $ per hour WORK SCHEDULE 75.00 hours bi-weekly as per schedule EMPLOYEE GROUP OSPEU POSTING TYPE Open POSTING DATE April 4th, 2024 HYBRID ELIGIBLE No NUMBER Multiple The Clinical Manager of the Beckwith B program is currently seeking Registered Practical Nurse's.

    The Beckwith program is in the high-secure forensic area which is an all-male facility. There are 40 beds on the Beckwith program, this is divided into separate units; Beckwith A and Beckwith B. The patient population Beckwith serves is primarily individuals that suffer treatment resistant psychotic disorders.

    We are an interdisciplinary team primarily made up of psychometry, psychiatry, social work, recreation therapy, addictions counselling, behavioural support and nursing staff.

    Our primary focus or mandate of care on Beckwith is reducing or eliminating the patients violent, suicidal, or self-injurious risks while treating the underlying mental illness.

    This is done using a combination of pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions.

    This is a challenging but rewarding work environment for those interested in helping rehabilitate and support patients living with mental illness.


    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
    Assess patient condition and needs; develop and implement therapeutic patient treatment/care/discharge plans
    Actively participate in the identification and coordination of provision of services and resources for patientsfrom admission to discharge WC
    Observe, assess, record, and report patient condition; evaluating progress and modify plans as appropriate; assess patient risk to self and/or others
    Contribute toa safe, therapeutic environment through awareness of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards, program/facility wide policies and procedures, and mandatory training REQUIREMENTS/


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Current registration in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
    Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Oxygen Therapy (OT) and Airway Management (AM)
    Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with medical and mental health nursing theory and practice
    Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with medication practices, side effects, and current treatment modalities, knowledge of mental health medications an asset
    Preference for recent and related experience working with high-risk patients who are demonstrating treatment-resistant symptoms
    Preference for forensic mental health experience in a mental health facility or service
    Experience with physical assessment and care requirements and psychiatric nursing theory, nursing practice and forensic mental health
    Experience with patient safety including emergency patient care procedures
    Demonstrated reasoning and analytical skills
    Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
    Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal, teamwork and organizational skills
    Proven ability to adapt readily to change and experience working in a fast-paced work environment
    Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
    Preference for proficiency in French/English
